About this project
The Occupy Chess Video Game brings together the Occupy Wall Street Movement and the classic game of Chess! It's my way of honoring the movement and doing my part in making sure it stays in the public eye. It's like real life in the USA: The 1% versus the 99%.
Each piece will be digitally sculpted and posed. Watch the project for image updates, and check out some of the sculpting within the video!
The funding money will go to getting the professional version of the game development software and add-ons for the iPod/Pad and Android platforms, technical assistance should I run into bugs, a salary for me, so that I can afford to work on it full time, and any other project necessities that might come up.

Here's a quick peek at the progress I've been making between publicizing this project. When you watch the video, you'll see me sculpting one of the white pawns. Here it is, with more detail. Within the game engine, a combination of the model itself and normal mapping will achieve the same effect.

Hello, I’m Jonathan Fesmire, a 3D modeler, texture artist, writer, and game developer with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Animation and Visual Effects from Academy of Art University. My project is the Occupy Chess Video Game.
After all the work I've put into this so far, I'm very excited to bring this project to Kickstarter! The video covers just about everything: they why, the how, and even some of the when. I anticipate that, once the project is fully funded, I'll be able to have the game out around October, 2013.
I've started and finished many creative projects over the years. Here are a few of many examples. My college band recorded an album. I've written and published four books. I kept an extensive blog about my master's thesis, and completed my 3D modeling and texturing demo reel. I feel that the Occupy Chess Video Game is my most important project to date.
Please watch this space for further development details!
I you would like to see more of my 3D modeling work, please visit my website. Definitely check out the demo reel link.
Here two of the project drawings by Gerry Fail that didn't appear in the video.

Risks and challenges
One challenge will be incorporating the 3D settings for the set, and making sure that the program does not get too large. As a 3D modeler and texture artist, however, I know how to create low polygon models that will still look detailed, which will be perfect for the environment.
The open source chess engine I'll be using for the game generates the positions of the figures at the start of each game. So, another challenge will be making sure that the right models are used for each position. This will take some research into the code. If I have difficulty with this, I will hire a Unity programmer to help me sort it out. I know this will be a simple matter for a more experienced programmer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
