Bodacious Creed and the Frisco Syndicate (Canceled)
In 1876 undead lawman James "Bodacious" Creed follows an underground crime boss to San Francisco in this steampunk zombie western.
Last year, I published my novel, Bodacious Creed: a Steampunk Zombie Western which started out as a Kickstarter. It more than met my funding goal and gave backers the opportunity to help create characters that shaped the story. Readers love the novel, which has more than 50 reviews, all four and five stars, and is selling well.
Yes, Kickstarter is a great place to help fund novels!
Now, I'm working on the sequel, Bodacious Creed and the Frisco Syndicate. This Kickstarter will help fund it, allowing me to pay for professional editing, cover art, and a portion of my reader's fee for the Audible edition.
Like its predecessor, Bodacious Creed and the Frisco Syndicate will be full of steampunk technology, gunfights, mystery, and well-rounded characters. These include the hero, the resurrected U.S. Marshal, James Creed, and the brothel madam and inventor, Anna Lynn Boyd. It will also include a full cast of supporting characters.
While the first novel took place in an alternate version of my home town of Santa Cruz, California, in 1876, the second will happen mostly in San Francisco.
What was San Francisco like at the time? Wild, rowdy, and dangerous. I've been doing extensive research on the city and its most notorious criminal district, The Barbary Coast, where much of the tale will take place. In addition to historical crime, add a syndicate raising the dead with steam-based technology, and we have a formula for the sort of danger Creed was born to confront. His greatest challenges lie ahead.
Check out the video and any updates. Once we reach the goal, I'll add stretch goals. Also, have a look at the rewards and become a backer! Everyone backer gets something. Even at $1, you will get a large, high quality jpeg of the wrap-around trade paperback cover. I invite you to become part of James "Bodacious" Creed's next adventure!
Why $3,500 for the Initial Goal?
I have a helpful spreadsheet that allows me to calculate the least amount of backing I need to ask for in order to fund a project. It assumes that every backer selects the reward that will cost the most to fulfill compared to the pledge amount, and takes into account the various expenses associated with the project.
Here's the breakdown:
April 18, 2018 - Update
I've added a new reward! At $120, you can appear as a character in Bodacious Creed and the Frisco Syndicate! This is limited to three backers, so if you want to be immortalized in a steampunk western, now's your chance!
April 23, 2018 - Update: Add-Ons!
This Kickstarter now has add-ons! Want the digital book and deck of cards, but not so much into trade paperbacks? You can get that! To add an add-on to your Kickstarter pledge, follow these steps:
1. Go to the top of this page and click the "Manage Your Pledge" button. If you are not already backing the project, click the "Back this project" button instead.
2. Increase the amount of your pledge by the price of each add-on you want. For example, if you want two more card decks and you live in the U.S., you would add $45.00 ($20.00 + $2.50 + $20.00 + $2.50).
3. Do not change the your pledge tier unless your goal is actually to increase to another tier as well. In that case, add the value of your add-ons to the price of the new tier.
Please Note: All add-ons require a base pledge of $25.
Make sure that you're getting the best deal by checking the higher pledge levels.

The unique side on each of the dice will look something like this.
How to Claim Your Add-ons
Once the book is finished and it's time to send out backer rewards, I will send all backers a survey through Kickstarter. This will allow you to give me your current address and other important information.
There, I will ask how you want any additional money you pledged allocated. Say you pledged at the $65 level, and you added a deck of cards and an additional copy of the hardcover, and that you live in the U.S.
You would have chosen the $65 level, and pledged a total of $142.50 ($65 + $5 for the pledge plus shipping, $20 + $2.50 for the additional card deck with shipping, and $45 + $5 for the additional hardcover with shipping.) In the survey, you would tell me that you want an additional deck of cards and limited edition hardcover. Simple!

Risks and challenges
Time. It took me four years to write the first book in this series. I was going through some serious financial and work difficulties for the first couple of years. Also, I spent much of that time developing the characters and the world of "Bodacious Creed."
The book turned out longer than I expected! That's good, but it did add to the time it took to finish it. I figured it would be average novel length, at about 80,000 words. The first draft came out to 140,000, and the final draft, 120,000.
Now that I have a good, full-time writing job, meaning a lot more stability, and I have deep knowledge of my fictional world and its inhabitants, I can realistically extrapolate that it will take about two years to write, revise, edit, and publish.
It will take a lot of research to bring 1876 San Francisco to life, but I've already done most of that.
My track record of finishing books speaks for itself as far as my ability to complete this project goes. You, my backers, will get an exciting adventure you helped bring to life!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
