THE POWER OF MODS

It is no secret that us at Gears for Breakfast all come from a modding background! It's really close to our heart, and for that reason we've always wanted to return the favor, by allowing our community to mod our game as well!

A Hat in Time will release with the following modding support:

  • ✅ Full level editor

  • ✅ Full Steam Workshop support
  • ✅ Add a hat
  • ✅ Add two hats
  • ✅ Add a lot of hats

  • ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅ EVERYTHING

Seriously, just go nuts! We love seeing fan creations!!

To kick off our modding support, we'll be releasing OFFICIAL MODS. We've gotten in touch with some VERY COOL people at various studios, and we're happy to announce the following mods will be available for A Hat in Time on PC at launch:

FREEDOM PLANET 2: LILAC'S HEADPIECE

Freedom Planet is all about momentum and speed, and when given the opportunity to work with the GalaxyTrail team, we wanted to transfer that momentum and speed to A Hat in Time also! Presenting: Lilac's Headpiece!

The headpiece allows Hat Kid to perform Lilac's Dragon Cyclone move, with all-new custom animations, effects and voice lines!

PSYCHONAUTS 2: RAZ'S PSYCHIC HELMET

DoubleFine is so cool for letting us do this!!!!!!!!!! It's no secret that A Hat in Time is Psychonauts inspired, so getting the chance to work with the people at DoubleFine has been a dream! Which of Raz's psychic abilities did we pick as the ability for Hat Kid?

You'll find out when the mod releases October 5th!!

AND MANY, MANY MORE MODS!

Upgrading Kickstarter rewards to Xbox One and PS4

This section is for Kickstarter backers only!
We're set up a way for you to upgrade your Kickstarter tier to include either PS4 or Xbox One! Unfortunately there is a fee involved, as consoles do not allow us to generate codes for free. Please only use these if you're a Kickstarter backer, at $15 tier or higher!

Upgrade tier to include Playstation 4 (click here)

The upgrade will be in addition to your Steam key!

The links to the upgrade are broken?

An update has been released with new info regarding the upgrade-to-console option! Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone!

Hello, just wanted to say that I'm eagerly waiting for the release, but I was negatively surprised by the "update fee". When I backed I didn't have a PS4 or a decent PC to run the game, I just wanted to help you make your game a reality. Now I have a PS4 and wanted to change my pledge to get the code for it, but paying more than the final game for non-backers is not really nice. Can you please find a way to charge a bit less and let us change from Steam to PS4/XB1? I'm sure a lot of backers would just like a console key, and not Steam + console.

    4. Seth Brown on August 24

Ugh, this really soured me on the game itself. And here I thought yours would be one to rely on to not do that. Honestly rather you have not done this at all. I would have been a bit bummed, but it wouldn't sit so badly with me either. In what universe should backers who helped you create your game, pay $5 more than everyone else to play the game that only exists thanks to their early support?

    5. Seth Brown on August 24

$20? Really... so we effectively are paying $5 more for the game than non-backers if we backed at $15. And I feel for any higher tier backers. I don't mind a fee, but I was expecting $5 tops. Low and behold it's four times my expectation. No way.

I'd rather just wait until the game is sub-$10 on PS4 on sale than pay that extortion fee.

    6. Christoph Grün on August 24

By the way the game looks ridiculously good! GREAT JOB!! XD

    7. Christoph Grün on August 24

I too was a little disheartened by the 20$ "fee". I read the news and was really excited that you included a link to the console-upgrade, because i was about to ask for that possibility anyways. At 10$€ i would not have hesitated, but with 15+20 = 35$ we kickstarter backers will be paying more than the asking price (while - that's just me - not using the steam version anyway)? that's a little weird :(

    8. Ertain on August 23

Well, it's been a long journey. But it's finally coming out.

    9. Edward Sostre on August 23

Mods!!! Thank you this is going to be amazing!!!

I second Griever's question, it would be nice if the console versions got the exclusive hat as well.

The Workshop support is a really nice surprise too, I look forward to seeing what people do with the level editor~

    11. Trevor Downs on August 23

Great news! :D Any chance of Switch support? I'm more likely to finish the game if I can get it for a console. ;)

    12. Dude Wellen on August 23

Giving us the option to buy a current gen console key is great! (since this was going to be PC only before).
I'm happy with the original PC code promised, but will keep my eyes out for a Nintendo Switch release :)

Is the Mac release the same day?

      Questions!
      1. Will the Kickstarter exclusive in-game hat be included for the console versions?

      2. How much will the console version retail for? Just so we know how big a saving we're getting by buying it through the provided links.

    16. Teppic on August 23

How will mods work on the GOG version?

    17. Gears for Breakfast Creator on August 23

Hi everyone, we're reading all your comments about the switch-to-console fee. The full game is 30USD, and we were recommended 20USD as the switching fee by 3rd parties. We are currently investigating the issue and hope to have an update soon! Sorry about this!

I'm happy that the game is finally coming out soon! This was the very first kickstarter I supported!! Thank you!

    19. Karan Patel on August 23

Ignore those guys complaining about paying $20. They're just complaining about something that is optional. They will still be getting what they asked for, so they don't really have any right to complain about this. Besides, $20 isn't even up to the standard console game cost of $60, so this is pretty cheap.

An extra $20 to get the game on console? No thanks. This has really soured me on the whole Kickstarter, I'm regretting my pledge now.

    22. David Michlig on August 23

So you're essentially asking those of us who backed but would prefer console to just buy the game again?

three and a half years late, then when it's finally announced I'm told that if I want it on PS4 (which is what I would've chosen in the first place) I have to pay again. Disappointing :/

You guys are seriously charging Kickstarter backers more than the original pledge amount for a PC key just to get one for console? When you're years behind your original delivery date? That's a really, really bad look.

Way to ruin your kickstarter just before the finish line, guys. I'm out.

    24. Christoph Zürcher on August 23

Awesome news, so close to getting my hands on this game!

    25. Jason Kavanagh on August 23

$20 seems like a lot just to issue a key on PS4, I already pledged $70, is this $20 going to switch both my keys to PS4 or just 1?

I don't know about this. There are games on PSN right now that cost less than $20, are you saying they are taking a loss just to sell their games??

    26. Chris on August 23

How will the region for the PS4-codes be determined? AFAIK there are at least three major Sony-subsidiaries you have to get in contact with Sony America (for North and South America), Sony Europe (Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Middle East) and Sony Asia (Southeast Asia, Japan).

Does the PS4 version have trophies, and more specifically, does it have a Platinum?

AHH!!! So cool! Hopefully I'll make the sweetest mod ever and get hired by you guys on the next game around ;D

    29. Pete on August 23

How much will console versions of the game cost to those who missed the opportunity to kickstart?

    30. 7chao on August 23

Is it possible to change shipping addresses? I actually pledged at the $70 tier way back during the Kickstarter and since that comes with physical rewards could I change my mailing address again? Thank you!

    31. Jeremy on August 23

That sounds awesome, I'm happy to play the full version on Steam, but it's cool that I can drop $20 on and I can get a PS4 code that I could send to a friend that's very interested in the game. That should be a significant discount from the normal price.

    32. Mirby on August 23

Yeah much like others here the $20 fee for upgrading to PS4 is a bit steep especially when I don't really need a Steam key. Much rather play this on console and that's basically just asking us to buy the game outright despite backing it like we did.

    33. multiplatgamer on August 23

I'm pretty disappointed after waiting all this time that you'd slap on $19.99 for a PS4 copy and not give us the option of switching the Steam code for a much smaller fee. I'll just play the PC version and hope it runs well on my laptop.

    34. Fermin Santiago III on August 23

Is there any chance for a Switch release? I would love to have this on Switch instead of PC :(

    35. Zageron on August 23

Woot! This mod support is amazing.

    36. Jenkins on August 23

      Pumped! Pumped! PUUUUUUMPED!

    37. Patrick Ly on August 23

Is the fee the entire $20? I don't really need my Steam copy, so i'd glad trade that in with a smaller fee for the PS4 copy.

    38. Midnight Koi on August 23

Awesome! I can't wait! No, it says I can make my pledge INCLUDE the PS4. That means I get it on PS4 AND PC?

      Scott Hartranft on August 23

Is the $20 for PS4 in addition to the $15 from kickstarter? Or is it just an additional $5? $20 to get the console upgrade seems steep.

Congrats on the announcement, will be looking forward to it even with lack of Switch support ;)
