ANNOUNCEMENT: A Hat in Time coming to PS4 and XBOX ONE this Fall!

A Hat in Time is arriving on Windows, Mac... and now PS4 and XBOX One THIS FALL!

When we launched the A Hat in Time Kickstarter, we were incredibly stunned by the sheer volume of people interested in our little Hat Kid and her adventure. We had never anticipated that the game would hit home with so many people!

We only ever aimed for A Hat in Time to release on PC, as that's what we were familiar with. Prior to the Kickstarter, none of us had any experience developing for consoles, but it had always been an audience we wanted to bring A Hat in Time to. However, due to the lack of technical knowledge and resources, we were not able to make this a reality on our own.

However, thanks to the incredible people at Humble and Hardsuit Labs, A Hat in Time is coming to PS4 and XBOX One! While us at Gears for Breakfast continue to develop A Hat in Time independently and without outside influence, the generous team at Humble is publishing The PS4 and XBOX One version, while the skilled Hardsuit Labs is porting the entire engine. This would not have been something we would be able to do ourselves!

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will feature all features present in the PC release, and will receive the stretch goal updates as well!

Please enjoy the main theme for A Hat in Time, composed by Plasma3Music!

Additionally, please check out this tune for the Lava Cake Peak in Chapter 4: Alpine Skyline!

The Next Kickstarter Update & Release Info

The next Kickstarter update will arrive in a few weeks, and will be our last big update before A Hat in Time releases! We will be sharing the official release date then alongside a lot of other new info, so please stay tuned!

Update on Co-op

One of our stretch goals for the Kickstarter campaign is coop play. We've showcased this a few times (such as at PAX East and E3!). However, due to console certification requiring a lot of extra time if a title is multiplayer, we've decided to push co-op play to arrive later, so we can release A Hat in Time as soon as possible.

Co-op will arrive alongside our first FREE stretch-goal update, which will also introduce the first bonus chapter! We apologize for this slight inconvenience!

Slacker Backer option closed

As we said in a recent update, the option to become a slacker-backer has closed. Thank you so much to all of you who backed to be able to play the Beta Build! The Beta Build will continue to be available in your Steam accounts, but will not be available for purchase anymore.

You can still preorder A Hat in Time on our website!

Thank you so much for your continued support!!

Can I adjust my packing from PC to PS4?

Glad to hear it's coming to consoles too! Is it possible to change ones pledge to a PS4 digital download, rather than PC? I don't have a Pc anymore that can run the game, so I'd really like to be able to actually play the game I pledged for.

    3. John Blythe on July 29, 2017

This is all looking really cool guys. Congrats on the console versions too. I would add my vote for a Switch conversion. Seems a no brainer to most of us backers to be honest. ;-) Here's hoping that happens, but I'm cool with the PC version for now.

    4. Ertain on July 28, 2017

I just want to know when the darn thing will launch. I'll probably get the Linux version (or even a Switch version if you port it).

    5. Aaron Willis on July 28, 2017

A physical PS4 version would be amazing, would love the ability to change my physical PC copy to a console one.

I'll echo the wanting to swap to a PS4 physical copy (if such a thing will exist when Humble publishes it)

Otherwise I guess I'll ask for a digital PS4 copy along with my DRM-free PC version.

@creped - I checked the main page, I don't remember ever seeing a Linux build being promised (unless I missed it)

      This is from the FAQ

      "Where's the Linux love?

Unfortunately our game engine, Unreal Development Kit (UDK), doesn't support Linux natively! Ack! What a bother! We're definitely trying to work around this issue, we'll let you know if we're ever certain we can release on Linux!."

I don't care about consoles! I want a native Linux build, this is why I backed your project in the first place!

    9. Eric Richard Austin on July 27, 2017

I would also love to know if there is any way we can change what version we want. I really don't game on my PC anymore, but would be so happy if I could play it on Xbox One.

Regardless, the game looks great! Excited that we will be able to play it soon!

    10. Bradley Nelson on July 27, 2017

I suppose I'll join in the chorus and hope that we can opt to change our PC version to the PS4 version (I'm one of the $70 physical game backers tier). If not physical release on PS4, at least a code for the digital PS4 release would be so great. Thanks!

I'll also throw in support for an option to swap Kickstarter PC keys for PS4/XBO keys. Totally understand that with a different team publishing the game on consoles it might not be possible to do it for free, but I would definitely be willing to pay a fee if you guys can work it out.

Count me in for being interested in changing or upgrading my key to a PS4 key if possible.

    13. Kai Pohl on July 26, 2017

I would love to see this on Switch. I get why you won't bring it on Wii U anymore, but with the Switch being more powerful, more popular and better supported by engines, it would be a great fit. It should be obvious that the Switch is where platformer fans are.

    14. cactuslick on July 26, 2017

Also wanted to register my interest in switching to a console version if at all possible.

    15. Seth Brown on July 26, 2017

Yeah it'd be great to be able to switch to PS4 if at all possible. I only backed to make sure the game had as much support as possible, since I love platformers. Generally don't back PC only kickstarters for this reason. Since I prefer to play on console; and don't want to have to essentially rebuy something to play it there.

Is there a reason it won't also be ported to Switch?

    17. Timothy Lose on July 26, 2017

Can backers choose a PS4 key?

    18. Vince Pavey on July 26, 2017

Any chance of a Switch version? That's where I'd want to play this game the most. Also will there be an option to change our key from PC to consoles if we want?

Adam Harwood on July 26, 2017

Fantastic news! Please give us the option of swapping our PC key for a Console version! I'd much rather play this on PS4!

    20. Nick Gipson on July 26, 2017

Oh come on guys, Switch is where its at! We already getting jerked around by Yooka Laylee, can't you see yourself releasing it there too?

I mean if not, I'll go with PS4, any plans for physical release?

    21. Justin Holmes on July 26, 2017

"Wii hear U," eh? Do you still hear us now?

    22. BPMΩ on July 26, 2017

That's pretty cool for those who prefer PS4 or XBO, but I'd REALLY love to see this come to Switch, too. For now, I'll stick with the PC release.

    23. Crystal Blair on July 26, 2017

Like everyone else is requesting I am also interested in switching my PC key for a PS4 key. I am excited by the news and can't wait for the release in the fall!

    25. Agent Gold on July 26, 2017

Your choice to push back co-op to a later time seems reasonable for your situation, and your explanation was good. Nicely done.

Congrats on being able to release a console game! I'm hoping to do some console development myself at some point, so I can imagine how exciting it is! 'Course, you missed the most important company of the three, am I right? ;)

Can't wait for the game to release soon! I've been looking forward to it!

    26. Alex McMillan on July 26, 2017

Switching to a PS4 key for my pledge would be appreciated :)

    27. Pascal Leroi on July 26, 2017

@flesk if so, it could easily be Porter to Switch too :3 that would be really awesome!

    28. Rodrigo De Sousa Trindade on July 26, 2017

I'd rather have a PS4 key than a PC one. Please make this possible!

"the skilled Hardsuit Labs is porting the entire engine" - To UE4? If so, maybe there's a tiny chance of a Linux version too?

    30. Olivia Martin on July 26, 2017

Echoing others here - Please give us the option to switch our PC key to a console key! My PC is getting up there in years and I'd love to be able to play this on my PS4!

    31. Nathan Thorpe on July 26, 2017

A Nintendo Switch port is what I would really love to hear about.
Exclusion of a Switch port doesnt make sense.
      Concerned and confused.

    32. Lewis Skinner on July 26, 2017

Put me down for a switch to PS4 please! Couldn't come at a better time with my GFX conking out :D

    33. Nowhere Man on July 26, 2017

Will we be able to change versions? I don't mind double dipping by my laptop can't run the game anyway. I was just gonna use a friend's to play this, but would prefer it on console. Also, a Switch port would be great :).

    34. Keith Bress on July 26, 2017

Awesome! Like many are saying, I'd very much appreciate the ability to switch my pledge from PC to PS4

    35. Andy Goldman on July 26, 2017

Yeah, I'd love to switch to Xbox One. Any way to do this?

    36. Jump_button on July 26, 2017

Your target market is on switch and you skip them........ lol?

    37. Justin Abadi on July 26, 2017

In addition to switching your version to Console if you want, I was wondering if the Kickstarter Hat would be in the Console Version as well as DLC or something? I'm a completionist so I have to know :)

Will backers get the console versions as well, or be able to pick one of them instead of the PC version?

    39. Ben Gunter on July 26, 2017

I'd also be interested in switching my key console as I've moved away from being a primarily PC gamer onto primarily consoles, especially PS4

    40. Ethan Zeigler on July 26, 2017

Any chance we'll be able to change our backer reward from the PC version to the PS4 version?

    41. Robert Kidwell on July 26, 2017

I'd like to know as well if we'll be able to switch a key to a console instead. Either way, congrats on moving forward with a bigger release.
