Update Roundup #3

Hey everyone! It's time for another collection of minor updates fused together into one big post! This time we've divided the update into a spoiler-free and spoiler-filled section, as some people mentioned last time that they'd like to remain blind about the game content but would still like to know how the project is going.

Spoiler-Free Section

We've done some playtesting! We sat down with players and watched them play a development build of the game right from the start. We're very shocked by the results!

In each play session, the players managed to obtain 20 Time Pieces, and we had to stop the play session after 6 hours as it was almost midnight at that point! We had never anticipated that the game was this long. When we asked the players about the game afterwards, they said that even after 6 hours, they felt like they had only scratched the surface of the game and wanted to experience more. It's very flattering to us to know that the game still feels fresh after six hours.

We consider the playtesting we did a major success. The majority of acts were well-liked, and for the few that weren't, we obtained data to know how they could be improved.

The above is not an indication of how long the final game will be. We may cut out some stuff, reduce or increase the length of some segments, etc.. But we wanted to share it to really show how much content we've actually put in the game for such a small studio.

Spoiler-Filled Section (If you want to remain completely blind when playing the final game, you can exit out now!)

New Act Select screen! For this final iteration of the act select screen we focused on giving it a more slick and polished look, while keeping the majority of features the previous iteration had.

Ha ha, yeah, I agree with those guys. A little bit of extra running around never killed anyone.. well, except possibly Donkey Kong 64. But seriously, I love that even the hub world is getting some more love. I love running around the hub worlds ala the Castle in Mario 64 or Grunty's Castle.

Love meaty (heh) games. I've never been turned off by a game being really long, as long as the quality remains consistent. Also thanks for separating out the spoiler stuff! It's nice to have the option to look through it really quickly so you don't start memorizing details.

To hear that 20 time pieces gives 6 hours in initial playtesting... this game could be considered a complete, awesome game with about 60. and judging from there being 10 in that screen above, times 6 levels, sounds about a right conclusion. I'm super stoked for the final product!

i love it when a game is long. espically this type of game. if you do just trim the fat a little bit. but overall these types of games are "long".

Like what ryan said. look at Super mario 64~.

i dont care if itll take me 20+ hours to collect em all.

      I love that

I agree with Ryan, please don't cut stuff.

Please do not cut anything out! I know I wouldn't care how long it takes. Think of how long Super Mario 64 took to collect everything.

Cool! Seems to be comming along really well. Good luck with the rest of the making!
P.S. Would also love for some technical updates, e.g. game engine, art asstes, AI, and such things! =)
