About this project
The Jolly Roger Brand was started in response to horrific images of Pit bulls on T-shirts and the media created stereotype.
Why I am doing this:
I started this brand as a way to pay homage to our beloved family dogs, Jolly Roger and Gunpowder Gertie.
They were the best family dogs. They were loving, loyal, and fun. However, since they were rescues, we had no real understanding of what they went through before we got them. This made them unstable at times. Jolly Roger would lurch randomly at small children, and Gunpowder Gertie would chase after any other animal she saw. Completely calm one second and then dangerous the next.
Whatever abuse or neglect our poor canines went through could not be undone by our love and attention. The realization that no matter how much training, or how many walks, or the kindness and love we gave to them would not change the cruelty and/or neglect they were shown as puppies was strongest when they killed Ridley, one our of family cats.
After living in denial for several months, we came to terms with our situation and had no alternative but euthanasia. It was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, but it was also the most honorable acts of love. We couldn’t surrender them to a shelter and risk someone else doing more damage. Nor could we live with a loaded gun.
We cannot ever imagine what horrors they survived to get to us, but we know, in all of our hearts, that we gave them the best life possible, even if it was for such a short time. They ate well every night. They cuddled on the sofa all the time. They even got ice cream during the hot summer nights. They were the best dogs in the world for us. We miss them every day. But we know we have them in our hearts.
My intention is to sell enough products and help animals in need, starting with the pit bull, and other "bully breeds."
When I say helping, I mean to destroy the stereotypes and educate the masses that it's not the breed, it the neglect, abuse, and environment that can make a dog vicious.
Why I Need Your Help:
I can't do it alone. With your pledge money, I will build more of an online presence for the Jolly Roger brand, produce more products, and advertise.
Ultimately, I would love to be able to take the money made from T-shirt sales and open a pit bull sanctuary.
Why You Should Pledge:
Every day, more and more people are blaming their dogs for behavioral issues, thus creating more and more negative perceptions. By supporting this project, you will tell neglectful, abusive, bad dog owners that enough is enough. You will also be sending a message to companies that portray pit bulls as evil, vicious, snarling monsters that you don't agree with that stereotype.
Yeah, but why do you need $1500 really?
It has been suggested that I start my clothing line elsewhere on the internet, but I want to control the products. I want to invest in local businesses, and I believe it's better to have the products ready to ship then it is it wait 3-4 weeks for printing.
It's the personal touches. With every order, I'll include a personal message, and keep everyone posted on how the progress towards changing stereotypes is going.
Rest assured, that your money will go to creating quality products. We'll use your funds to make a second run of T-shirts, print Sweatshirts, and embroider hats.
For the Pirate Dog in your life, we will make dog collars, dog toys, and dog bowls... but that all takes money to start.
We will also use the funding to advertise and update our website.
Know that even if you pledge $1, you will be helping the project... and you'll be helping change the world, one T-shirt at a time!
