About this project
UPDATE: We've recently added our new TWIN TOTE for wine, bubbly and the big boys of beer/cider. We've also added COMBO OPTIONS for those into multiple styles! See Rewards below.
The Sixfold design concept is based on a make-better, live-better ideology that has evolved into a line of leather beer and wine carriers, accessories—and much more to come. Our patent-pending fold-and-notch system cuts out wasteful production processes and invites users to become makers!
Our products are crafted from sustainable, eco-friendly leather and walnut. The patterns are laser cut and ship flat, straight to you. In six quick folds, users create their own high quality carriers, with no sewing or small parts required!
Sixfold has tapped into the buzz surrounding craft beer movement. With your help, we hope to expand both our production output and product offering, sharing our vision with the wider world of conscious consumers who care about amazing design!
Introducing The Sixfold Twin — Designed for Refined Palates of All Kinds
Wine-enthusiasts clamored and we answered—with a multi-functional carrier! Meet the latest addition to our beverage family: The Sixfold Twin. Based on the same fold-and-notch design concept as our beer carriers, this 2-bottle tote is made for:
- 750ml Beer/Cider
It even carries some of your favorite spirits! We've added an adjustable side tab to this design to accommodate bottles of many shapes and kinds.
Makes a Fine Pair
For Bigger, Bolder Brews
We're a design company at heart, so why choose beer? Well first, because it's the universal conduit for conversation—beer brings people together. It's also about a shared a respect for both tradition and innovation, which brewers and enthusiasts celebrate.
As the beer movement grows, so does a universal respect for quality, craft, and sincerity. Here in the Hudson Valley, NY, where SIxfold is based, the beer movement has flourished alongside a community of creatives and entrepreneurs. We're looking forward to bringing our products to a growing population of conscious consumers who care about better ways of making and being.
- Because production doesn’t have to be wasteful or environmentally unsound: Our no-sew system avoids the use of toxic adhesives, industrial sewing machines, and exploitative factory labor.
- We want to offer customers the satisfaction of creating something they love—a feeling you'll get to (literally) carry with you. Users earn insight into the design process when assembling their products, bridging the gap between customer and creator.
- Quality comes first. We're cutting costs associated with outsourced manufacturing and instead investing in our community and the best local materials.
Sixfold promotes forward-thinking design while offering products that are familiar, functional, and fit into our users’ lifestyles.
Sixfold evolved from a personal challenge: Our founder, Joshua Karl, wanted to find a way to create a beautiful, high-quality product without sewing a stitch.
He sketches each pattern with a meticulously devised system of notches for hooking the leather onto the walnut spine. Design dictates quality: Patterns must be precisely rendered in order to maintain their functional integrity.
When preparing patterns to be laser cut, Joshua tailors the layout to maximize the output of each hide and minimize waste.
Patterns are sent straight to the machine, where lasers make quick work of cutting. The heat of the beam effectively seals the edge of the leather and gives the wood spine a smooth finish.
Our carriers are crafted from a high-quality, vegetable-tanned English Bridle leather. We work with a supplier who specializes strictly in vegetable tanning—the most traditional and environmentally friendly method. Instead of chromium and harmful chemicals, the leather is treated with tannins from tree bark and plants, which imbue the leather with its signature suppleness and warmth.
The American walnut used to craft our spines is sourced from the Ocooch Mountains in Wisconsin by our trusted family-owned supplier. We apply natural linseed oil by hand to give the wood its rich finish.
Materials: Our vendors are standing by with order amounts. Once we're funded, we expect the materials to arrive at our Hudson Valley facility within 40 days.
Set-up: The primary goal of our Kickstarter is to fund our own in-house laser machine. Once funded, we've factored in 3 weeks for delivery and another 3 days to calibrate. We'll keep backers in the loop with photos of our shiny new laser machine and videos of the calibration process.
Production: Once the machine is up and running, we'll be pumping out more than 200 carriers per week, at a rate of around 40 per day!
Shipping: Depending on where you are and when you order, every Sixfold collaborator should receive his or her flat-packed case within 2-6 weeks of our campaign's end date.
We have taken great care in the planning of our fulfillment over the past several months. Once we reach our goal, we look forward to bringing Sixfold into the world, fully formed!
Sixfold's Own In-House Laser Machine
We were fortunate when we started out to find Fabhaus, a local laser-cutting studio where we were able to perfect our first set of prototypes. As we take on higher volume and launch additional product lines, we need a higher-output machine to keep production in-house and super efficient.
Your support is an investment in our future, smarter technology, and jobs for the local community.
Sixfold has planted roots in Newburgh, NY, a community bursting with new energy. As Sixfold expands, we hope to provide opportunities for individuals in Newburgh looking to expand their skill sets. We're excited to introduce workers to safe and sustainable modern technologies that will remain relevant far into the future.
Sixfold is a group of creative-minded individuals united by a shared philosophy. We're equally excited about the future of product design and discovering a better way to make and be.
From business to branding and creative direction, to content management and copywriting, we bring a spectrum of skills to complement the vision of our founder, Joshua Karl. Together, we form a small but scrappy collective with the potential to expand...Sixfold!

Risks and challenges
While our streamlined production process eliminates risks inherent to outsourced manufacturing, maintaining solid communication with our suppliers is crucial to making sure orders are fulfilled correctly and on time.
We've prioritized building close relationships with our local suppliers, who ensure that our leather, walnut, and stainless steel meet Sixfold's exacting standards in terms of quality, sustainability, and calibration (every detail counts in our designs).
We're confident that open communication and a well thought out action plan (see our Pledge above) will eliminate snags in the fulfillment process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
