January 2019 Update

Posted by John Wick (Creator)

Hey there, everybody!

So a lot has happened over the last few months. I've put out a ton of adventures, dropped PDF pages from Secret Societies, released PDF pages from the Khitai Sourcebook, and I've been proud to be a part of a HERO LAB release and the 7th Sea Greater Than Games project. I've been keeping myself pretty busy.

But something else has been brewing in the background. I've been discussing with various publishers about becoming partners in the 7th Sea project. Those talks have been taking up a lot of my time. It's also put a damper on further releases. If other companies come in to help us fulfill the remaining obligations on the KS, they'll want a say on how we continue forward. That means I have to put a lot on hold until we reach an agreement.

And we're really close to making an announcement, but I need to keep it quiet until the papers are signed. I don't need to wait until the ink is dry, so the moment we finalize the agreement, you'll know. And I hope you'll be just as excited as I am about it.

I also took a long holiday at the end of the year. It's something I needed to do. Writing an adventure a week, getting out chapters of Secret Societies and Khitai, negotiating with other publishers, and doing it pretty much on my own has been rough. Thankfully, Jessica Kauspedas has been helping me better understand the financial aspects of the company, where we made some mistakes, things we overlooked, paying our people, etc. The good news is, we've been making a lot of forward progress in that area. The bad news is, the more money we go to paying off debt, the less money we have to invest in the future.

And that's where our publishing partners come into play.

Again, I wish I could say more—and I'm super excited about it—but not just yet. Soon. Very, very soon.

Thank you all for your patience so far. I'll be releasing the last chapter of Secret Societies next week for you all the peruse. I'm sure you'll be having a ton of fun with that. Also, another chapter from Khitai is in the immediate future.

I'm back from vacation and ready to get back to work. Hopefully, in a short amount of time, I'll be able to make some really big announcements. Until then, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Take care,

was hoping for the maps, but your sanity is a heck of a lot more important.

Take care, and I hope the rest of this takes off for you.

I will admit I was concerned as the original Kickstarter grew that it was turning into another project where the stretch goals grow so big they drag down an otherwise successful project (*coughstarcitizencough*). I was impressed with your initial speed at meeting all the additional goals, and good planning, and sad when it looked like you weren't going to be able to get everything done.

It would have been easy to walk away, or just go on indefinite "hiatus" when things fell down last year, so thanks for sticking to it, and trying to find new partners. I hope this deal lets you take a break and maybe bring back some of your collaborators without giving up too much.

Most stories that start with the kind of news you dropped last year don't have happy endings.

If this ends with the game being supported and you being sane and solvent, I think that'll be a huge win.

Sounds like you're on track for a huge win.

      We are pulling for you.
