Core Rulebook Release!

Posted by John Wick (Creator)

The time has come. After nearly a month of proofing, revisions and changes, we’ve finalized the Core Rulebook for print and digital delivery. Just today, Mark approved the last few pages of the proof, and we’ve told the printers to start printing! Woot!

7th Sea on DTRPG

Over the next 12 hours (or so), we’re going to be delivering a DTRPG code via Backerkit to all backers who are receiving the 7th Sea Core Rulebook. The link we’re sending will automatically add the product to your cart for $0.00; just check out… and you’re done.

If you don’t get an email, don’t fret. The code should be available to you on your digital downloads page at this link by tomorrow at the latest:

The new PDF has all sorts of corrections and changes from the previous versions, including new information about Villains, a ton of Ussuran and Sarmatian edits, and a full character sheet for the game. We’ll be making additional materials available this month (like maps), so we’ll update the file along with posting new materials on our website.

The PDF will go up for sale next week, but for now… the game is just for backers. We can’t wait to see what you all do with it.

7th Sea: Voyage of Fortune’s Star

Today isn’t just a huge day because we’re releasing the 7th Sea Core Rulebook... it’s also a huge day because we are embarking on an entirely different kind of journey.

In association with Fuel.Tech and Nocturnal Media, we're pleased to announce 7th Sea: Voyage of Fortune’s Star, the first 7th Sea video game. Fuel.Tech and Nocturnal Media will jointly produce the game, which will be a story-driven, single-player cRPG in the vein of Torment: Tides of Numenera.

Yup, you read that right: a single-player 7th Sea RPG.

Nocturnal Media is well know to tabletop gamers as the new home of Stewart Wieck, founder of White Wolf and co-creator of several World of Darkness games. Stewart is also a project creator on Kickstarter, including Hellywood (currently live!), so he knows what’s required to run a project that keeps backers engaged and informed. Fuel.Tech has worked with clients that include the world’s largest energy and technology corporations and now they bring their expertise to bear on their passion: games. We’re so excited to see them bring Théah to life.

We’ll keep you updated as they launch later this year, but we encourage you to sign up for their email list to hear more about this awesome new 7th Sea experience.

Thank you!

I know I say it often, but… thank you. Yesterday, I told Mark, “I have five meetings about 7th Sea stuff today. I feel like I’m playing hooky from my real job.” I still can’t believe this is what I get to wake up and do every day. Every. Day.

Thank you for making it possible. And thank you for believing in this game. I never lost faith that Théah was something special. Thank you all for making it as amazing as I knew it could be!

      Sorry for the duplicate message.
      Didn't refresh the page.

LIke the new book and Map. They look great.
By the way, where is La Bucca?
I've looked for it but I must have missed it.
I'm creating a character, A Highland Marcher but it's not that easy.
Answering the 20 questions is a struggle, for me at least.
I ran and played 1st edition FYI. Looking forward to running and playing 2nd ed.
Also I read this some where but now can't remember, who are the characters on the cover again?
An Avalonian woman and a Castillian gentleman yes?
      Like to see their stats.

    4. Richard van Deursen on

The hi-res book and the map look great but where is La Bucca?
I have looked but couldn't find it.
      Have I missed something?
I look forward to playing/running this version.
Character creation isn't that easy I've found, trying to create a Highland Marcher.
But that's part of the fun isn't it?

The In-Character map looks great, but the legend still says AV 1968 instead of 1668.

Also, there seem to be longitude lines on the map despite that not really being a thing yet in Theah. I'll assume that their presence and the fact that the meridian goes through Pais means this map was stolen from Montaigne (or acquired via time travel in the Seventh Sea, which would also account for the date).

@John Wick Full credit where it is due, the new PDFs are excellent! The 144 dpi version is an absolutely tremendous improvement over the muddy 72 dpi version released last week. I had figured something in the 150 dpi ballpark would be the new "hi res" version (typical among RPG publishers), so to see that label actually go to the stellar 300 dpi PDF is beyond expectation. Art is only one aspect of producing RPGs, but I'm glad to see someone pursuing this kind of technical quality in digital publishing.

@All - Please contact us directly through the Kickstarter messaging system. We can't help you if you post in the comments.

@Gareth - Yes! We're going to be contacting all of the folks who have characters featured in the books (or at a GenCon game) this week.

    8. Julien Mondoloni on

Can you tell me guys (those who managed to get their code) how/where you did receive it ? Thanks in advance :)

    9. Space Monkey on

The 2e core rulebook is awesome! A better resolution version will be very welcome though.
And the possibility of a cRPG set in the 7th Sea is really the cherry on the cake. Count on me to back this on day one!

    10. Sean Butler on

Should I have all the first edition PDFs already? All I have are the Swashbuckling Adventures and the 2e core rulebook versions.

    11. Julien Mondoloni on

      Coooooooooooooooode please !?

    12. Alfredo Tarancón on

@Scott Have you tried to log in into your backerkit account? There's a section there for Digital Downloads, and usually that's avaliable quite soon, even before the mails go out...

@John Wick: Are the dread pirate surveys taking extra time? I don't see anything through my KS profile or email for the character creation.

      have not received code.

    16. Alfredo Tarancón on

@Bradley There have been 2 previews and the final core book. The first preview is 299 pages, I think, the second preview is 304, and the final core is 307, including the character sheet and the final map. (in case of doubt about what you have)

@John Wick: There're a couple of mistakes in the bookmarks for the document. The ussuran society name it's still the old one, and the Author Hat bookmark says Los Vagabundos instead o Author hat....

I think I had sent a comment on the survey for the 2nd preview, but with it not being part of the proper book it makes sense that it got lost...

    17. BRADLEY CLARK on

So the Corebook preview is not the final PDF? Am I understanding this correctly?

    18. Paul Monaghan on

Like many people I have also not received the code yet. I checked backer kit and it's not there.

    19. Michael Kennedy on

Actually, scratch that. It was listed as "Core Book - Wave 7" -- which I was confused by since the Wave 7 stuff had, up until that point, been all those Swashbuckling Adventures PDFs

    20. Michael Kennedy on

I also have not received my code. I did get a "New Digital Content for 7th Sea" notification for... the Preview v2. Again. No code for DTRPG for the actual core rulebook.

    21. Netobvious

@ThuongPham, have you check any SPAM folders. The emails are coming in waves, so stay tuned and if nothing withing 48 hours, kindly notify John Wick's team the "contact me" button.

7:30 PM PDT and I have not received the code :(

Ups,this one yep,the only problem remaining is the first edition bundle.Shaun Gray, you can contact backerkit,if you didn't received it yet.

I still haven´t received this code and all the first edition pdfs code neither.I have only received the second edition codes, snif.

A job well done on the new core rulebook. The die mechanic caught me off guard when the quick start rules came out, but it played like a dream around the table. The changes to sorcery caught me off guard as well. After reading them, I think they'll play even smoother than the old sorcery rules.

If I'm not mistaken, there seem to be some subtler changes to the setting than the inclusions of the Samation Republic. I don't see any mention of a conflict between Vendel modernists and Vesten traditionalists. The crazier elements of Sophia's Daughter don't seem to be part of the setting anymore either (amen for that if I'm right).

      Luke Granlund on

@Seth It's a fair thought, but the images in the preview and the DriveThruRPG PDFs are all 72 dpi, intended for screens. They just really cranked up the compression. Something sent to the printer would almost certainly be 300 dpi or better. I'd love to get a print resolution PDF, but I know that won't happen.

    30. Netobvious

@SethPetrusWoolwine, you have good insight. After the last DriveThruRPG debacle, imagine an ultra-high resolution PDF taking down their servers when 11450 people try to download (maybe even a 100 of us at the same time plus however many regular DriveThruRPG product buyers).

    31. Seth Petrus Woolwine on

@Luke The original was probably based on the file they would send to the printer which had to be more detailed while the final version is the compressed version more meant for digital distribution from places like DriveThruRPG. I can see why it was done and that's just part of the business.

    32. Missing avatar

      Luke Granlund on

I'm glad to have the PDF in hand, but disappointed it has shrunk so much compared to the previews (16 vs. 42 MB) that the art has become a muddy mess of JPEG artifacts. It's obvious in every single image, including the page background, without even doing a side-by-side comparison. I know size is a concern for distribution, but the degree of compression is unacceptable in my opinion. Please change this for an upcoming revision.

Quick Glamour Question: can you gain the Major Glamour of your Knight Mantle's minor trait? I figure you can take the major traits major or minor glamours, but was unsure about the minor trait.

This made my day, I am thrilled to see this come to final fruition and so are the many circles of gamers I play in. Great work.

@netobvious Whatever i can do to help. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the sheet. It was a quick edit so not sure if I goofed something.

Got a mail yesterday evening mentioning that the second preview is available, but not the final Core book. All as planned?

We are collecting various iterations of Character Sheets (and you have been credited there too @DavidWild).

@John Wick if it's not too late we stumbled on a glaring typo: the Valroux Cross title is still Valroux Press.

Downloading now, looking forward to reading it for the day I have off. Such a shame I killed my tablet last week and have to read off my monitor.

Looking forward to running a game next week.

Any word on how long until it will actually be available on BackerKit to download? I got my email saying that it was there, but BackerKit just says "Core Book - Wave 11 pending Digital Reward is not yet distributed. "
