About the relaunch + new blog!
We're pretty much ready to go with the relaunch. The demo is finished and available here, and the new Kickstarter page is in place, with a new main video, a few other new videos, and new graphics. As I mentioned before, we'd love your feedback on it before the launch.
In the last several months we've been working on some really cool things that will allow us to develop the dictionary much more quickly in the future.
Ash has been doing a ton of programming recently. He wrote some software which takes our completed analyses of kanji (that is, the results of our research on each individual kanji) and semi-automatically generates about half of the Essentials Edition entry. That cuts down significantly on how much time it takes to write each entry; the process of creating dictionary entries from our paleographic analysis is now almost 4 times faster.
What that means in practical terms is that development time will be significantly reduced, so developing the dictionary won't cost as much. So, we're going to reduce our goal for the relaunch to US$30,000.
We're waiting on a few technical issues to be resolved, and then we'll launch, so keep an eye out, and be sure to share the project once we launch to help us get the word out!
We've also launched a blog about learning kanji! There's only one blog post so far, but we'll be posting more in the coming weeks.
Getting Radical About Radicals is about why you shouldn't focus on radicals when learning kanji, but on functional components, and explains the difference between the two. This is one of the keys to understanding how kanji actually work.
