CONQUER THE GALAXY IN CONQUEST MODE
Conquest Mode is a fun new way to play the game as we add a strategic layer to the game that adds infinite replayability. As you conquer fortress after fortress in campaign mode, you’ll soon realize that whole galaxy is yours for the taking. Conquest Mode opens up that possibility.
This mode is inspired by the conquest mode found in Star Wars Battlefront 2. It plays like a 4X strategy game, but without the layers of menus and complexity that typically are associated with the genre, and with other players added in make it more competitive.
The “4X” part stands for:
eXplore: You get a view of the whole galaxy, and you can zoom around and pinpoint new undiscovered places to explore. Each new territory is either procedurally generated, or created by another player, so the variety of terrain and battlefields can be quite diverse.
eXpand: Your objective is to take over as many new territories as possible. To do this, you need to build an armada of ships and troops. How many troops you can send into a new location is based on how many ships you have. And you can build multiple armadas and expand out in multiple directions. However, to build such a massive army you need resources. Which leads up to the next X.
eXploit: Taking over each new location gets you access to more control points and resources. Control points help you jump around the map faster, and also limit movement for other players. Resources can be used to further expand your empire as you build more warships, and troops. There is no mining in the game, where you have to dig a hole just to exploit the resources. Once you conquer a place you can set up control, and gather resources automatically. We make this part easy so you can get back to the battles.
eXterminate: Each new floating island or territory that you want to take control could be occupied by local hostile forces, or even the forces from other players who may have already conquered it. Extermination is the only option. When you do decide to take over new territory, the game shifts towards the build and battle mechanic that we focus on in the game.
The X-FACTOR - OTHER PLAYERS
What makes Conquest mode fun is that you have to contend with other players who have intentions of conquering the galaxy as well. With each new territory you conquer you earn trophies and the best players are vying for the top spots because of extra bonus rewards and gems they can earn. However, there is a catch: Become too powerful, and other players can find ways to gang up on you. You now become the main threat to the stability of the galaxy, and that is something that others can’t just let happen!
If you attempt to take over another player’s territory, you don’t fight them directly in PvP. You face the other player’s troops and defenses in an asynchronous fashion, this way you don’t have to wait for that person to play, and you can attack anytime.
THE BIG VISION FOR CONQUEST MODE
Conquest Mode is the sort of thing that we can constantly build over time even after post launch. If you love it, we’d love to hear more from you on what to build as we get further along. For example, do you want some more direct combat where you can fight against another player in real time? Do you want to form alliances and attack as a team? Can a player become all powerful if they amassed enough resources? What about adding space battles? Your feedback will guide what we build next.
This Mode is still quite a ways away, since it’s the last phase of development for us. But I at least wanted to share with you how we envision it all coming together.
SUPPORTING THE INDIES ON KICKSTARTER
I was one of the first in line to back the Ouya, and now I'm hungry for more games, in particular the kind that lets me play with friends all together in one location. Couch co-op as they call it. So when I saw Chain Gang Chase on Kickstarter, I knew I had to back it. You can play with 7 of your buddies at the same time! Best of all? You can create your own maps. And you know how much we love user generated content.
