“Dispatch from Disneyland: The Fireworks Spot and other tales” is my collection of short stories and essays written in and about my favorite place on earth - Disneyland. I will be publishing these stories in print and ebook formats, but I need your support to fulfill the potential of this book.
I am thoroughly delighted the project has already reached its initial goal. The support from f the Disney fan community and everyone who has pledged so far has been amazing. Thank you all so much.
When I set the initial goal, I calculated the bare minimum that would be required to publish the book and then added in Kickstarter fees. But I do have grander goals for the book. Those are now in reach.
Any additional pledges from this point will not only give me a little cushion, but it will allow me to give back to the Disney fan community by supporting other talented artists. The first priority will be to hire an illustrator to provide some graphic elements to the stories. After that, I am hoping to be able to include a song I wrote as a partner to one of the stories. But I'll need to be able to pay a composer to collaborate with me on the orchestration and final recording. Additionally more pledges will go to providing wider publicity for the book allowing the dispatches to reach more Disney fans.
I'm as excited as ever and working behind the scenes to get everything ready. The project ends on Sept 4th, my birthday. Please check out the rewards levels and see what gift I can give you when you pledge your support to help “Dispatch from Disneyland: The Fireworks Spot and other tales” exceed everyone's expectations.
The Back Story
Back when LaughingPlace.com still had that new website smell, I was asked to pen a regular column. I decided to tell a story, my story, the story of my love for Disneyland. The goal was to share a little bit of the magic with those who couldn't visit Walt Disney's crown jewel theme park on a regular basis.
These stories connect with the emotions I feel when at Disneyland. Some focus on the little moments of magic while others have a broader scope. Together they tell the story of the park’s history, cast members, and possible futures.
Over the years, many readers suggested I turn my series into a book. Which, I must say, is a great idea. I've been polishing the Dispatches to a shine for over a year now and the goal is finally in sight. There are just a few hoops left to jump through and the final bits of show quality to check before it's ready.
How You Can Help
I want this book to be the best it can be. Alas, there are some costs involved with publishing a quality book. These include copy-editing, design, getting the book out to reviewers, and assorted fees. As I’m self-publishing, I need some assistance to pay for the final few steps.
This is where you come in. I’m using a concept called ‘Crowd Funding’ via KickStarter.com to help me complete those final details.
Your advance support though KickStarter is an all or nothing proposition. Either the crowd funds your project or no one's card is charged. You won't have to worry about refunds if the support isn't there. I am confident the project will reach it's goal and when the project is funded, there are real tangible benefits you will receive.
What are these rewards?
What do you get when you support my "Dispatch from Disneyland" book project? Well besides the warm feeling that comes from knowing you're helping a member of the Disney fan community, I'm offering some intriguing rewards.
I'm thrilled to be creating my first ever button for The Disney Blog. Everyone who pledges support of $10 or more will get a free button to wear and proudly show they're part of The Disney Blog community.
Although you can pledge to support my book project for as little as one dollar, there are bigger rewards for pledging at higher dollar amounts. For instance, if you join the Castle club for $20 and I'll send you a hand signed copy of the book when it's published plus you’ll receive credit in the book. If you're willing to help at the $200 level and there's a whole slew of rewards including the opportunity to name a character in one of the stories.
Please become part of the project and help me push the Dispatch from Disneyland book over the finish line. I’ve set the crowd funding portion of the book project to end on my birthday, September 4th. So please help me have the most awesome birthday ever and pledge your support today. Thank you for your consideration.
Note: This project, like my blog, is not associated with the Walt Disney Company or Disneyland in any way. It is my own fan project.
