Hands Up, Herbie!
“Hands Up, Herbie! is a delightful, faultless, matter-of-fact graphic biography of artist Herb Perr, in his words and Joey Perr’s pictures. A powerful and moving story that is imaged with empathy and without pathos. I worked with Herb Perr during the 1980s and have long admired his commitment to art and social change. Joey Perr does his life justice.”

Risks and challenges
The main challenge is that my plan is to print Hands Up, Herbie! offset. This also doubles as an exciting opportunity, because I am committed to Herbie, as a tactile object, being printed and bound for long-term spine-cracking. I want to make a book that will last. So I’m using great Munken paper, the binding will be sewn as well as glued, and the printing itself will be handled by patient printers sensitive to the nuances of getting things just right. No compromises!—thanks, of course, to your support.
The challenge is that all of this requires a team, and printing offset is anything but automatic. Even the most state-of-the-art offset printing equipment requires capable, experienced humans to guide the process. Fortunately, I’m working with a production team of friends with ample printing and publishing experience, and a top-notch printer, to ensure that Herbie is shepherded, with craft and care, through the production process from the preparation of artwork and printing files through to printing and binding.
I’m confident all of the above will be tangible when Herbie ends up in your hands this fall!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
