Wow! $250,000!

Posted by Joe Rubinstein (Creator)

Just another quick update, everyone! We're flabbergasted, yes, FLABBERGASTED!! (and also mindboggled) that there's been such overwhelming support for this camera in such a short period of time! Thank you all SO MUCH for contributing to this project that we've been working so hard on. We will not disappoint!

When Joe and I put this project up on Kickstarter, we had no idea whether people would be interested in seeing a camera from a new team. We both felt that this camera filled a big hole in the market, and we're so thrilled that other people feel the same way.

We're really excited to start producing the first 100 cameras, and of course any funding that exceeds our $250,000 goal will go towards designing new mounts and accessories and making the first 100 models as strong as possible. Our Kickstarter camera backers are our ambassadors to the rest of the camera world, so rest assured that we're going to work personally with each one of you to make sure your camera works as promised.

Our manufacturing partners, based in Canada, Ienso (, are putting together a video update for all of you that we hope will be online by this evening. That should answer some of the questions about everyone's tech background, and will show some of the electronics they're working on for the camera. Check out their website to learn more about the design work they do on really cool niche cameras.

Joe and I offer our eternal gratitude to each and every one of you. Keep on asking questions, and we'll do our best to answer as soon as we can!

P.S: We've had a lot of questions at SXSW and on various forums about M, Nikon and 3 turret mounts. What do you guys think? Is there interest in that?

A big vote for Nikon mount!

Nikon mount. The 3 turret mount would be cool for C mount. But I couldn't see myself using it as I own more EF, Nikon and PL mount lenses.

I've previously commented that a standard C mount makes the most sense. PL seems to open up the possibilities to a lot of 16mm lenses but I wonder if a m4/3 mount could be offered to allow for some of the newer lens options like the new voightlander's.

      Canon EF and Nikon mounts!

C mount and PL mount would be great to have straight off the bat. I have no need for a turret.

I believe PL, Canon EF and Nikon mounts will be the most requested. I also vote for Sony Alpha mounts, only because I have such lenses. A B4 mount for video zooms would be great, but not sure how you'd power them.

Tossing in a vote of interest for M Mount!

Agreed with Wayne, turrets are kind of a pain in the ass.

Nah. Stick with the C-mount. Turrets are a pain in he *** I know, I've worked with them Plus, a zoom lens makes three lenses unnecessary.

    10. John Stewart Muller

Agreed. A 3 turret mount would be totally awesome! That was one of the best features of the old Bolex and Filmos.

I think C mount is great, and will hopefully have people looking to purchase c mount lenses aside from PL. A 3 turret mount for C mount lenses would be great. Weight-wise, too, C mount makes the most sense.

And as a side note, I think M42 mount would be a good option as it'd let me use my Soviet lenses on the camera, namely the Meteor 5-1 lens (made for the Krasnogorsk-3 16mm camera.) That being said, EF to C and M42 to C mount adapters are only $30-40 on eBay, so no worries if you can't make the mounts

What I'm most concerned about right now is the battery. The spec sheet lists an internal battery with an optional external via XLR. Would you consider having it run on interchangeable, rechargeable batteries though? Like maybe Anton-Bauer or Canon LP-E8 or LP-E6 batteries? This would be far more useful, keeping the camera portable and not tethered with an XLR cable, plus it'd keep the price of the camera cheaper for shooting. Thanks!

A three lens turret would be amazing! I could just move the lenses over to the new camera. However a single mount would be fine if there was some sortofdust shield to the sensor.

    15. David B. Weaver on

Keep it classy, Bolex-style. I say focus on the 3 turret mount and add other mount options if that works for the products' design and is economically viable for you guys.

I hope you still plan on including the additional mount of choice now that you've met the goal. But if tough decisions need to be made I cast a vote for Canon EF.

    17. John Majkut on

Additional bells and whistles are always great, but I just want the camera as specced to be as reliable and durable as possible... and with software to ingest and deal with the resultant files. With just that, we are all in good shape!

Please allow for easily removeable mount change option. Like Red scarlet/Epic, allows for C-mount, m4/3, nikon, canon ef, PL, and much much more will easily be available if the mount is removeable. Thank you. Loved Bolex as my Dad shot me in one and have kept many many bolex since then.

Disappointed you can't get a pre sale camera outside the US...oh well a tee shirt will have to do for now...

    20. Lukas Sumper on

Congrats, i love that project and i am sure you'll succeed!! I am interested in PL Mount .

    21. Nick Hiltgen on

A PL mount would be great as there is a surplus of good 16mm PL mount lenses currently!

    22. Jonesy Jones on

YES! I'm very interested in the Nikon mount. Please support this.

    23. Joséantonio W. Danner on

Thank you for having the stress balls to make this happen...

Single mounts would be the best (in my opinion) - interested in PL and C mount.

    25. Michael Stern on

I'm quite interested in the c-mount and canon !
