About this project
We’re a young Dutch independent leather brand that makes eco-conscious luxury goods. Our leather goods are designed, sourced, and handmade here in Europe, at the same small scale artisan factories used by many of the world's finest luxury leather brands, but offered at an extraordinary third of the price.
Our fine leather goods are biodegradable and made from natural and recycled materials. They are ethically and sustainably produced in Spain with respect for people and the planet, which is embedded in our European tradition and heritage. By offering them to you directly — no middlemen, no brick and mortar stores, no excessive marketing ploys — we can pass the savings onto you. Enjoy luxury without the guilt and without the crazy markups!
Belcori’s philosophy is “we never have a sale” and we produce only a limited number of each item in all our collections to protect your investment and guarantee “The Luxury of Exclusivity.” For us, less is more. Less volume, more creations. Most products on offer here will not be available after the campaign ends.
A Belcori accessory is not meant to be a status symbol, but a true luxury item carefully crafted to be enjoyed for a lifetime. All of our leather bags and wallets are handmade with only the finest materials, one at a time with meticulous attention to detail, something mass-produced luxury brands cannot offer.
Our first collection includes six models of fine, handcrafted leather accessories: the Grand Executive, the Elena, the Pug, the Portman, the Taylor, and the Passport – all available in vivid colors and color combinations. Our designs are timeless, minimalistic in aesthetic, and built to last a lifetime. You can pre-order your leather accessories during this campaign, at exclusive Kickstarter prices only.
Handmade in Spain
Our collection of leather goods is made exclusively in beautiful Ubrique in Spain, a small town at the bottom of a valley, filled with white little houses surrounded by hills.
The town has no airport, not even a train station – and makes some of the best, if not THE best, leather goods in the world. Having been called the “secret supplier to the world’s top designers”, at Belcori we’re proud to have our collections carefully created here, with the best craftsmanship possible, expertly applied to every detail of our designs.
At Belcori, we want to celebrate individuality. If you'd like to personalize your order, we offer free monogramming. Just let us know in the survey after the campaign. You'll be able to choose your colors at that time as well.
All our bags arrive at you in a beautiful Belcori branded gift box and branded gift bag, made with recycled cotton.
Premium Full Grain Cowhide Leather
Full grain leather is the highest grade, best quality, and the most difficult to obtain. This is the softest most durable type of leather and with proper care, can be passed down for generations to come. Unlike lower quality split and top grain leather, the surface of full grain leather is not buffed or embossed, so the true natural beauty of the leather itself shows through.
Characteristics of Belcori's Spanish leather:
- Hides: Catalan Cowhide Shoulders
- Full Grain and Vegetable Tanned
- Aniline dyed for full transparency of the leather's natural properties
A traditional way to tan leather, that has become more and rarer over the past centuries. During the tanning process specialized artisans use vegetable and bark tannins that are found naturally in some plants, barks, and leaves. Though it takes weeks to complete, it is well worth the wait for the beautiful natural colors and textures it produces. Vegetable tanned leather is also unique in that it gets more beautiful with age as the patina develops its own unique character over the years.
Belcori uses Spanish RubyStar zippers. These are top of the line and very smooth metallic zippers, easily comparable to YKK Excella zippers.
We use an amazing blend of recycled cotton and cotton fabric from Portugal for our interiors, that is both resistant, nice looking and more eco-friendly, fitting into our philosophy of being a sustainable European luxury leather brand.
We try not to use too much hardware and in this first collection we are using nickel-free chrome-plated Italian fittings.
We use the German brand Amann for our polyester threads as we believe it has an amazing durability for our luxury leather goods. We had tested other polyester threads including the German brand Gutermann but we preferred the Amann threads. We use polyester threads for its strength and unfortunately have not yet found a suitable natural or recycled alternative for highly durable and fine threads, but we are constantly looking out for new developments.
Belcori means beautiful leather in Latin, and when we say “Belcori- Beauty and Beyond” we’re referring to our respect for the environment – that we go beyond the beauty of our leather goods, and want to make a real difference in the world.
It all started with a personal adventure. While studying, living, working and traveling the world as a marketing/communication consultant, the founder Joachim Delfortrie, who was born 1979 in Amsterdam and speaks Dutch, English, Swedish, Portuguese, and Spanish – was shocked to see the enormous waste of non-recyclable, mass market fashion products.
While traveling the North of Spain in 2015 he met men and women who still practiced the centuries–old tradition of vegetable tanned leather, a natural and environmental friendly process. Using original recipes handed down from one generation to the next over hundreds of years, to preserve and safeguard their local tradition and craftsmanship. Seeing how much this craft meant to these men and women and the beautiful result it produced made a lasting impression on Joachim – and this is where the idea for supplying ethical, European-produced leather goods was sparked.
We want our company and practices to be a reflection of our belief in the slow fashion movement, which we consider the only responsible method to continue enjoying premium leather products in a sustainable, guilt-free way.
We partnered only with suppliers that are as committed as we are to similar sustainable policies, from the recycled cotton gift bags from Portugal, to the premium metal zippers we source in Spain. Our vegetable tanner and our small artisanal factories in Spain have been practicing their craft for more than a century. Though they are hidden away in Spain’s southwestern mountains, they are often hired by some of the most prestigious luxury leather brands in the world.
Time is the most important ingredient for these artisans. With this same respect, we design our Belcori leather goods. And yes, there is a price to pay for this level of craftsmanship, but not the one you will see on the price tags of big brands. We are firm believers in honest pricing for premium leather goods produced in an ethical way.
As we learned in those Spanish regions, all it takes to create something truly great is passion, craftsmanship, and utmost patience.
To honor our dedication to maintaining the health of our planet, after the production and distribution of your rewards we will contribute one percent of all of our sales to the environmental nonprofit organization, 1% for the Planet. Let’s remember that "The Earth is Our Home"!
Please note: per Kickstarter guidelines, we will not use this crowdfunding project to raise funds for charity. We plan to continue our commitment to social responsibility outside of Kickstarter, and want to share our mission with our backer community.

Risks and challenges
Though there is no way to eliminate 100% of the risk when it comes to production, we're confident in our ability to get you your rewards on time while meeting the highest level of quality standards.
At this point everything is ready to go for production. All of the players are on board. Our designs have been refined and tested for optimal functionality. Our sources for materials have been chosen — we are going with an award-winning Spanish tannery. And, our accessories will be produced in a factory in the hills of southwest Spain by the same artisans who handcraft the leather goods of legendary luxury brands. Everything is set for production to start as soon as you let us know how many orders to fill.
We understand that even with meticulous planning, challenges can arise. While we don't foresee any bumps in the road, we've added enough cushion to our delivery timeline so that we can still deliver on time if anything does come up. If despite all of our planning we do encounter delays, it is our promise to you to keep communication frequent and transparent as we work through any issues.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
