Update #10

We Made It!!!

Something amazing happened yesterday. We reached our goal! Thank you so much for your support. We still have 5 days left and some great stretch goals to reach for. Let see how far we can push this!

We want to make something big out of our livestream on Saturday. This is primarily a development livestream and in it we will be implementing the basics of monsters and fighting. You will get to watch Kelley do digital painting and animation, and watch me (Jasson) do programming. That’s not all though! We have some events planned throughout the day. Here is a rough schedule with the major times. We also have some smaller events that will be spread throughout the day such as contests and an addition to all rewards.

      @Jasson It's less about the color itself and the shape of the darkness.
      If you look at some EARLY mockups of SoR by French Rice Games: http://www.indiedb.com/games/survivors-of-ragnarok
      you can see that the darkness is tile based, instead of the more gradient look of typical field of view (fov) or line of sight (los) system.
      I am NOT saying to change everything to a tile based fov/los, but rather, indicate that the depth fov/los limitation is one of depth by using a tile based mask to differentiate it from the other los/lighting fov mask you have now.
      I was thinking something like this should be able to be modable, as the depth fov would likely be an additional mask to the existing lighting system you have in place, though it could be optimized to take some of the weight off of your lighting system too. You could then mod it out of the game (or into the game), adjust the depth, introduce equipment that removes it, or causes certain elements to be shown while others remain hidden, etc.
      basically what I am saying is that vision mods would be fantastic! :D

      @Brandon So instead of darkness what would you see? Something like what Jordan suggested with the blocks turning into a default block? Feel free to hack together an image if you need one to get your thoughts across. :)

      First off, congrats!

      I realize this is likely a silly request, but I've always thought there should be differentiation made for your limited vision due to light, and blocks that are too deep to see (because there are 5+ blocks in the way)... being able to see so far into the rock is a given (not knowing what is two blocks deep harms gameplay fun), but it should look different then simple "darkness"...
      Am I making sense?
      Anyways, this is brought on by the desert biome image you've posted. as it isn't as noticeably an issue on darker colored ground. Are there any plans to do something like that? Or is there any way that could be modded into the game?
