About this project
Since 2007, I've been studying how people learn from mistakes. On my site The Mistake Bank (http://mistakebank.com), I have collected over 200 mistake stories, from famous people like Richard Branson of Virgin Enterprises to my father-in-law, and have put them on the site, as videos, audio stories or text.
I've also read a ton of books, academic articles and other pieces on how we learn and, in particular, how we learn from our mistakes (you might call it "learning from experience" because most experiences that you remember vividly are the unsuccessful ones).
More than 100,000 people have visited the site, and I've been fortunate to have groups like 99u ask me to write for them (example here).
After all that, it was time to distill all that insight into a book. So I did. Rather than write a dry, boring, massive volume, I made "The Mistake Bank" short (less than 150 pages), illustrated, with more stories and less lecturing. I think you'll like it. You can read a brief excerpt here.
I'd like to bring it out as a trade paperback, so I am raising $2,700 to cover layout, cover design and an initial print run. Please consider being a part of making this happen!
Risks and challenges
The book's text is complete and the drawings are about half done as of December 15. The biggest risks and challenges involve reliance on outside folks to help bring the project to fruition. There's a small risk my collaborator might not finish all his drawings. It's possible that the printer I've picked out may not be able to deliver on what he has proposed.
I've thought through these and have plans in place (Plan B, C, etc.) to press ahead and complete the project, even if it changes from my initial vision a bit in its final form. Failure is not an option for this book!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
