About this project
The Printed Blog is the world's only print magazine made of content from the web. Because we believe in the value of print, we pay our published contributors - a gesture that we believe creates a standard while simultaneously supporting a community that is often undervalued.
Updates!! (For full Update text, scroll to bottom of page)
[Update 1] We added promotions to our rewards! We will promote your blog in various ways depending on reward tier. See bottom of page for more info.
[Update 2] For every $100 donated to our Kickstarter, our staff will do 30 minutes of volunteering at a local non-profit. That means if our Kickstarter is fully funded, we will serve a total of 125 volunteer hours throughout Chicago! More info at bottom of page.
WHAT WE BELIEVE & WHY WE PRINT IN THE DIGITAL AGE
The internet has created wonderful things- if you are here on Kickstarter, you know that. One of the greatest manifestations of the internet is the fact that anyone can achieve an audience. However, one of the problems with the internet is that everyone knows this. Because of this, there’s more amazing content created by people worth knowing than you could read in a lifetime- and much of it is left to drown in a sea of cat jokes and advertisements.
So The Printed Blog has made a bilateral commitment: to both expose the best content the web has to offer - the most poetic, heartbreaking, funny, controversial, informative - and to make sure that the value of this content is captured in a format that commands the attention it deserves. It doesn’t matter if you write for The New York Times and you get 1,000,000 hits per week, or if you live in your parent’s basement and get 10 hits a month — if you have something to say that is well written, we’ll publish it — in print.
However, we are not just a pretty print job of stuff that you can get for free on the internet. Thousands of bloggers submit their work to The Printed Blog, and, with the help of notable guest editors, we showcase their talent by publishing their work next to some of the most prominent names in fashion, photography, and media. In doing so, we aim to generate credibility and exposure that bloggers can use to establish themselves. To support this, we continue to bridge the gap between the digital and tangible by promoting all published writers and photographers across our expansive social networks. Finally, we have devoted a percentage of our budget to pay all those published. While right now it's $50 per contributor, that amount will respectively increase as our budget grows. So the more that's invested to start this project, the more we can compensate for our published submissions!
So what is the result? A stunningly curated, glossy, full-color 11x17 magazine that becomes a collectible register of the best the internet has to offer.
WHAT WE'RE RAISING FOR
The money you pledge to The Printed Blog will be used for a number of things to get the ball rolling on our unique publication. First and foremost, it will be used to begin the production of a 3-issue series of The Printed Blog, which includes content gathering, printing, mailing, and the paying of our wonderful bloggers and photographers $50 for their published contributions (more as our budget increases!). You will also be funding our publicity and the development of non-invasive advertising contracts to allow The Printed Blog to become a self-sustaining publication. We will also be generating new online content to further engage our reader community in the bloggers and photographers that we publish, as well as spreading our vision to the rest of the world by creating new licensing contracts to bring The Printed Blog to new voices and eyes.
WHO HAS CALLED THE PRINTED BLOG HOME TO THEIR WORK?
The Printed Blog has prominence in the blogging community along with the respect of thousands of writers and photographers. Highly regarded names in writing such as Jenny Lawson, a.k.a. The Bloggess, White Girl Problems author Babe Walker, and former Men’s Fitness editor and media personality Neal Boulton have all contributed to The Printed Blog for free, simply as an investment of faith in our commitment. World renowned photographers such as Luis Sanchis, Rankin, and Martin Stranka have also sent us their works to be featured. Most notably, controversial celebrity photographer Tyler Shields has joined The Printed Blog as a photography editor and co-founder, re-energizing our publication by creating a bridge for young, up-and-coming actors and actresses to write and contribute articles for publishing.

[UPDATE 2] We really wanted to offer something that encapsulates our philosophy which is, quite simply, giving back. So here’s what we’re going to do. For every $100 donated to our Kickstarter, our staff will do 30 minutes of volunteering at a local non-profit. That means if our Kickstarter is fully funded, we will serve a total of 125 volunteer hours throughout Chicago! We’ve picked five different organizations so we can spread the love in all sorts of ways: Working Bikes Collective, PAWS Chicago, 826CHI, Everybody Dance Now, and Greater Chicago Food Depository. Help us help Chicago! Check out our blog for more information.
