A webseries about comic shop folks, huh? Tell me more about these Infinite Issues.
Becca Herrera (Rebecca Teran) can’t complain – she works at a comic shop, her best friend Tom (Quinn Allan) is a comparable geek and she just maybe-sorta-could be on the cusp of a normal-ish relationship. Stacked against the eccentric regulars she’s charged with keeping in order at the Altered Egos comic shop, she’s almost convinced she has her act together.
The next three days will change her mind.
A geeky mash of raunch and absurdity, Infinite Issues‘ three-episode pilot story arc focuses on the midnight release party for a popular trading card game that Becca is compelled to host at the shop. But the event is destined for disaster as Becca, Tom and the Altered Egos regulars all try to mix their social lives with their gaming lives – with explosive results.
Sounds interesting! How's that all been going?
It's going pretty well! We're working with the same crew we had for our Enter Kid Apocalypse videos and they've been doing an incredible job on this. It's all our best buddies here in Portland working together and everybody's doing their damndest to make these episodes the best they can be.
On top of that, we really couldn't have gotten any luckier with our cast. We have a fairly large ensemble for a webseries, yet everybody brings a unique energy and humor to their characters. Every day we've shot we've been laughing our asses off and we couldn't have hoped for a more fun group of people to work with through the late nights and long grinds.
Cool, dude! So where do I come in?
Well, the whole thing's been funded out-of-pocket so far, and we're pretty much out of pocket. Thanks to day-jobs, volunteers, the kindness of friends and strangers and an unexpectedly unpunishing tax return, we've been able to get through the majority of our shooting schedule. But we need your help to get this finished and up on the Youtubes so we can all watch to our heart's content.
The more contributions we receive beyond our target, the better we can make this pilot arc and the sooner we can release it. With your help, we can also do some actual, honest-to-gosh promotion for this thing so that we'll have a shot of launching Infinite Issues as a series (we've already roughed out three seasons and it takes some heroic restraint not to blab about the insanity we've got planned).
With your help, we'll be able to:
- Pay our cast and crew
- Cover the remaining production expenses (make-up, wardrobe, props, location rental, catering)
- Pay for and accelerate the post-production process
- Get the bare minimum necessary color correction and sound editing completed
- Generate promotional material and online advertisements
- Send you some cool stuff for being so cool
We've been blessed by the confidence and enthusiasm everybody's brought to this project and their willingness to do what it takes to get it done - we want to reward that and, at the same time, make sure these episodes are as strong as they can be so that we can hopefully make more.
Our target goal will provide us with just enough to wrap this up and get it out to as many folks as we can manage. It will also allow us to release the episodes a great deal sooner than otherwise.
So, what do I get out of this?
For starters, you'll have played a crucial role in the making of this series and getting it online for everybody to see. And in addition to our eternal gratitude and hyper-concentrated good will, we're offering some exclusive donor rewards for everybody who joins in to help make this show.
Altered Egos Browser - All donors receive a special thank-you video from Jared and Quinn, .pdf files of the screenplays to all three episodes and periodic email updates on the series.
Altered Egos Customer - Receive a special thanks credit on our website and access to donor-exclusive content, including behind-the-scenes footage and bloopers.
Altered Egos Irregular - Download every episode, DRM-free, as well as a donor-exclusive, no-holds-barred documentary detailing the making of the series.
Altered Egos Regular - We'll send you the Special Edition DVD of our first feature, The Roomies, signed by Quinn and Jared, plus the Bootleg DVD-R copy of Infinite Issues (including the making-of doc).
Altered Egos Part-Timer - You get a set of four DuGiDynn cards, produced for the series and handled by damn near the whole cast and crew. Jared and Quinn will also record a personalized thank-you video featuring the very cards we'll send you. All that's on top of everything you get at the Altered Egos Regular level.
Altered Egos Full-Timer - Quinn and Jared will record a personalized thank-you video in which they effusively and shamelessly praise and adore you, followed by Quinn serenading you on guitar by candlelight. You also get a Special Thanks credit on every episode, plus everything the Altered Egos Regulars get, but you'll be enjoying it in the warm afterglow of sweet Mongrel romancin'.
Altered Egos 3rd Key - You get everything the Altered Egos Full-Timers get, as well as an invitation to the INFINITE ISSUES premier party in Portland, OR. (Travel and accommodations not included.) If you can't make it, we can meet you over Skype - Jared, Quinn and whoever else we can wrangle will meet you for a Skype meal and have food of your choice delivered to your home.
Altered Egos 2nd Key - Become a DuGiDynn card! Jared will illustrate you as the fantastical creature of your choice (limited to a three-word description) and design a custom card around your character. You'll receive the high-resolution image files for the illustration and card, as well as a signed print of the card. You also get everything the Altered Egos 3rd Key level gets.
Altered Egos Manager - You will cause Jared's heart to explode with gratitude and shock, potentially making you a murderer. As consolation, you'll receive a Producer credit on each of the three episodes, as well as the website and anywhere else the other credits may be perused. You'll also get everything the Altered Egos 2nd Key level gets.
I'm in, let's do this. Are there any additional ways I can help make this happen?
Absolutely! Help spread the word! Get on that Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram and let people know about Infinite Issues, this Kickstarter and Mongrel Studios! Follow and share us on those sites and keep in the know about the latest news and release dates!
Risks and challenges
We've managed to shoot most everything we need so there's very little risk that the project won't be completed - the most likely obstacles would just postpone the release. A stray bus could land on the cast and crew, the cameras might spontaneously beam into the Negative Zone, bears could eat our hard drives - it's always possible a ridiculous disaster could occur and we won't have the resources we currently are relying on to complete this production.
But we've made several back-ups of everything we've got and we know some folks who could lend a hand if somebody vital gets drafted into a Secret War or something. We've got a dedicated group of people supporting this thing and many of us have completed far more harrowing independent productions going into this. We can't promise that all our hard drives aren't in fact Decepticons engaged in the most circuitous evil scheme imaginable, but we are confident that the most likely worst case is that things will just run much later than we anticipated.
If a delay is anticipated at any point in the process, we'll let you all know and do our best to make it right.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
