I got the space, the date, the time and the advertising. Now I need to make more art and get it all to the show!
Hi, I'm Jim Garmhausen. I live in the little tiny town of Ithaca NY, home to Cornell University. That's me in the pic below!
I have a pop-up show in Brooklyn NY on August 3rd, in this here building:
...on Willoughby Avenue in Bed-Stuy. Ain't she sweet? Looking at this building is a situation causin' salivation. I love old brick spaces. Now look at the interior:
Am I right or am I right? Beautiful.
The costs of the space and advertising are covered (including an ad in Hi Fructose that is in the current July issue!). The story of how the show came to be is, well, hinted at, in my video, which my wife put together, using a goofball film I had initially intended as a joke, and some of my art, which she attached word balloons to. Didn't she do good?
The man the film refers to as "Andy Warholic" saw my work on the walls of a coffee shop here in Ithaca, NY. He offered to help me put together a show in Brooklyn. He was true to his word, and found the great space you see in the above pics. Without his interest, this would not be happening. I'm still a little stunned that he's doing this for me!
The rest of the story is up to me. This is my chance to bring my work outside of my hometown and into the wider world. What better place than Brooklyn? I mean, even the Nets want to be there.
The show is called "If You Have To Ask, Then You'll Never Know." Which I think speaks for itself.
Here's some art that'll be in the show. Grab some popcorn and enjoy, but if you get butter on anything, you buy it:
Hmmm... together with the next one, maybe there's a bit of a butcher theme happening...
And my wife's favorite:
She's never wrong, you know.
what I need TO DO
I need to finish the art (I've made a bunch, but I gotta fill that big space), frame it, mount it, make prints, and truck it all down to Brooklyn for an August 2 set-up. Then the opening is August 3, and of course, you are invited.
what I need FROM YOU
What I need to get there:
- SUPPLIES paper, pens, ink, tape, labels $90
- VINTAGE FRAMES from flea markets and whatnot $55
- TRUCK RENTAL u-haul, one way, Ithaca to Brooklyn $295
- GAS down there and back $150
- PRINTING small prints & postcards, t-shirts & hats $385
If I get above the minimum, I will use it on the following:
- PRINTING larger prints and posters $200
- SUPPLIES rolls of paper for BIG art $50
Thanks people! I really appreciate your interest! Ask me any questions you'd like, about the show or anything else, short of the meaning of life. Which is just to enjoy yourself, by the way. Peace out.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
