About this project
Powered by our popular Remix OS, Remix Mini allows you to work and play with the entire Android app ecosystem while taking full advantage of intuitive PC features such as a taskbar, multiple window multi-tasking, mouse and keyboard support, and so much more.
But not in the traditional PC sense. While everyone else is spending top dollar for the latest hardware specs just to check their email and watch Youtube videos, we realized that there’s SO much more to creating a great PC. Through its carefully engineered optimization of hardware and software, Remix Mini is able to undeniably live up to its motto: less can be more.
The Remix Mini features a capacitive touch power button unlike any PC of its kind. Rather than awkwardly feeling around the back panel for that elusive power button, just gently tap the top of your Mini. Within seconds you’ll be able to start working and surfing the internet as you would with any other computer
Remix Mini is powered by the latest 64-bit chipset and delivers up to 20-30% better performance than its 32-bit counterparts. At the core of what makes this so special is actually what Remix Mini doesn’t need you to do. You will never have to worry about whether you’re installing the right bit version ever again. With Android, it all just works.
Even at its small size, Remix Mini comes equipped with everything you need in order to stay connected: Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB. All of these options gives Remix Mini an unprecedented level of versatility for its size.
The typical desktop computer clocks in at anywhere between 65 to 250 watts. Remix Mini gives you the same power of desktop computing at a mere 10 watts. By simply leveraging already existing power efficiencies found in mobile CPU architectures, Remix Mini is able to save you so much more in power without sacrificing anything in performance.
To whom much is given, much is expected. Remix Mini comes in two versions. Both run Remix OS smoothly, but vary depending on how you plan on using your Mini. As a home media center, the 1G RAM + 8 GB storage gives you more than what you need to stream and download that blockbuster movie you’ve been dying to see. Now, if you’re looking for something with a bit more kick and productivity in mind, we highly recommend the 2G RAM + 16GB storage version. No matter what you decide, the choice will quite literally be in your hands.
At the core of the Remix Mini is our custom engineered version of Android Lollipop - Remix OS. Our state of the art operating system is the cornerstone to all of our hardware. With its multitude of productivity oriented features combined with over 1.5 million apps, Remix OS seamlessly merges functionality, ease of use, and beauty in amazing ways to give you an unforgettable Android experience. Our first Kickstarter project introduced our Remix Ultratablet to the world. Some of you might be wondering why we've moved into the realm of PCs.
Tablets and desktop PCs are hardware form factors – vessels, if you will. It is the software running inside that gives the device life, directly dictating the experience you have with it. A perfect industrial design is meaningless if the OS is difficult to use.
People tend to identify PC and mobile operating systems as different animals because they run on different devices. While most of the operating systems in the market embrace this distinction, we believe bridging this divide is the next evolutionary phase of what an OS should be.
Remix OS is the embodiment of that evolution. It is our vision of an agile operating system. It keeps the advantages of being a mobile OS, while adding the tools that define a PC operating system. Here’s how we measure up against some other mobile and PC operating systems.
Our last Kickstarter put Remix OS to the test in a mobile device - the Remix ultra-tablet. Now, we're putting Remix OS on the Remix Mini to showcase its ability to run as a PC.
Our founders are three ex-Google engineers who've accrued more than 26 years combined working at Google HQ. The products they've had a hand in leading or building have been used by over 2 billion people in the world.
Jeremy Chau (1st software engineer on Google AdWords): "Our vision is more than just this product. We want to make tools for people to create & communicate, and then watch them being used in innovative ways we never imagined."
David Ko (Lead engineer on AdWords mobile for Local Businesses): "Building an operating system takes time and a lot of hard work. But building a great operating system takes more than that. It takes a lot of feedback from the community who use it everyday."
Ben Luk (Lead engineer on Google Maps, Asia): "Be a part of our community. Engage with us and Remix will reflect your ideas and what you need from your personal computing."
The idea of Remix started in early 2013 as just a software vision. People have and use mobile OS' for fun, but creating content is just painful and sometimes impossible.
As we were building Remix OS, we looked in the market for big tablets to show off our software. We discovered a market full of sub-par options. So, we decided to build our own hardware to unleash the potential of Remix OS.
Earlier this year, we launched a Kickstarter to release our Remix Ultratablet to global users for the first time. The resulting support was astounding. We successfully launched, funded, and fulfilled our campaign within two months. The subsequent feedback from our first Kickstarter community has been invaluable in enhancing the Remix user experience even further.
Three months ago, you, the Kickstarter community, made our dream come true, giving the world its first Android-based productivity tablet. Now after shipping to 27 countries around the world, we are still completely humbled by the overwhelming support we've received to date. With your feedback, we've been able to take our core software powering the Remix tablet, Remix OS, to the next level.
Android is the operating system of the future and we want to accelerate the arrival of that future. As the most popular OS in the world that runs on phones and tablets, Android has begun extending itself into other parts of our lives - such as Android Wear, Android Auto and Android TV.
However, Android has yet to be adapted for productivity and ease of use on PCs. For Android to truly take its next evolutionary step, it needs to be optimized for content creation in a PC environment and go beyond what it is now. We innovated Remix OS to do just that and take Android to another level.
Renowned computer scientist Alan Key once said, "people who are serious about software should make their own hardware." We buy into this ideal and Remix Mini is just the next installment of this vision – unleashing the power of Android through Remix OS in devices of all shapes and sizes.
Risks and challenges
We have a dedicated team located within a 30 min drive from the manufacturer so that we can deal with issues that may arise in person and in real time. Our team is staffed with experienced professionals in the sourcing and hardware manufacturing industries. Their expertise and proximity to the factory should be able to mitigate any of the manufacturing issues that may come up.
We're working with highly experienced logistics partners to help us mitigate any of the issues that may arise with shipping. If shipping issues come up, their expert knowledge will help us navigate through difficulties and help us get Remix into your hands.
We pride ourselves in being transparent with our community and in listening to our users. In this spirit, the rates you see are the rates our shipping partner gave us for shipping out of Hong Kong. However, we are actively working in attempts to bring down this cost. While the likelihood of the single unit ship rate decreasing is low, we have discovered that shipping multiple units to one destination can reduce the per unit ship cost. So, if you're looking for a lower shipping rate, try to find a friend or two to combine orders with and you'll be able to reap the benefits of cheaper shipping!
But even better, the beauty of the Remix community is that we listen to your suggestions and we act when it's feasible! If you know of a better option for us to ship to your country, we're willing to explore alternative options.
Yes, after the campaign is over and as we get the first-batch of Remix Minis ready, we will send you an exit survey through Kickstarter to confirm and you can change your shipping information then.
You can connect Remix Mini with HDMI. You may need to source a converter if your monitor only supports VGA/DP/DVI .etc.
In the package, we provide a power adapter which will cover universal international standards (input 100-240V, output ~5V), the plug itself is only US/China friendly. After we hit our $750k stretch goal, EU plugs were unlocked for EU backers.
If you are in other regions of the world, you may need to buy a plug adapter.
We don't have micro-USB ports in the first generation Mini, however we will consider adding that in next generation.
It really depends on the touchscreen monitor you have in mind. Let us know in detail and we can give you an accurate answer. Feel free to write to us at email@example.com.
Currently Remix Mini does not have dual monitor support, but we are actively working on this.
Do existing USB keyboards and mice work with Remix Mini? Do I need to buy Android specific hardware?
Yes, most existing USB keyboard and mice will work fine with Remix Mini. You don't need to buy Android specific hardware.
An IR controller is not included with this generation of Remix Mini. However, the chipset we're using does support IR so most IR controllers should work with Remix Mini. Give us a bit to test out different IR controllers before we give official suggestions of controllers that work well with your Remix Mini.
For foreign languages, we have actually just unlocked all stock Android languages on Remix OS. That means 80-90% of text will appear in your native language. Also, you will have access to keyboard input for your selected language. For the remaining 10-20%, we will need a few more months to fully localize for all languages.
Remix OS is moving towards a lightweight and streamlined experience for the users. This means we're not pre-installing any apps on your Remix Mini. Choose yourself from the wealth of apps in your preferred Android app store.
While there is no mic port on Remix Mini, the audio jack supports mic function on your earphones and connecting webcams with mics will also solve your mic needs.
At the core of the Remix Mini is our custom engineered version of Android Lollipop - Remix OS 2.0. Your Remix OS will be regularly upgraded every 2-4 weeks through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
We support 4K*2K resolution, and this doesn't transfer into any size limits. Any sized monitors or screens will work well with Remix Mini.
Remix OS is an Android-based operating system. You can download any applications from your preferred Android app store.
Our connectivity is through either WiFi 802.11 b/g/n or 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet. The network speeds you're connected to and the streaming application will also affect your stream quality. For most cases, Remix Mini should be able to handle your streaming needs.

Yes, Remix Mini will support control inputs from keyboard and mouse for games that are optimized for keyboard and mouse. You can also connect a game controller to Remix Mini for your gaming pleasure. We'll also be testing many of the most popular games on the market and will continue to work and optimize them for keyboard and mouse controls on Remix Mini.
As we start testing Remix Mini for different use case scenarios, we'll be able to give you a more accurate answer. However, please be patient because we'll have work through quite a few general scenarios until we get to specific issues like this one.
For ONE (1) year after receiving your Remix device, we will replace or repair your Remix with a new one if there are inherent major defects related to the hardware. Inherent major defects are defined as problems that don't allow the device to function normally. For instance, if your Remix can't start up, or it doesn't charge or power at all, these would be considered inherent major defects. Hardware defects that result from clear negligence, misuse or abuse of the hardware by the user are not covered by this replacement policy. Please be in possession of the hardware in question and be prepared to supply us with photos and a detailed description to show the inherent major defects you are experiencing.
We have made the decision to stick to the hardware as is so we can avoid delays in delivery on the originally proposed Remix Mini.
We don't recommend rooting your Remix Mini since rooting will void the warranty for Remix Mini.
In our campaign page, you see the tier options to your right. We're sure you can find an option that fits your needs. At this point, we're not opening up any new tiers yet. We do suggest you take a look at our existing tiers first and choose from them. However, we may be adding additional tiers in the future, so stay tuned.
Yes. Worldwide voltages range from around 100 to 240. Our power adapter has an AC adapter that safely converts any voltage, within the worldwide range, coming out of the wall socket into a safe operational current for the device.

Remix Mini and Ultratablet can connect and share between them through:
1) Miracast - casting your Ultratablet screen to Mini and showing it on the screen connected to your Mini;
2) OTG cable - USB A into your Mini and the micro USB end into your Ultratablet - this turns your Ultratablet into an accessible drive on your Mini;
3) Android Apps like SHAREit - allow you to send files from one device to the other.
However, the caveat is we'll be testing each of these options in the coming weeks to make sure which works optimally and which ones we'll need to work on more. In the future, we'll be working on connected Remix devices through our own software solutions. Just as Remix OS has been through quite an evolution since our beginnings, sharing across Remix devices will only get better and easier through software development.
Yes, you can use one of the USB 2.0 ports of Remix Mini to connect an HDD.
Remix Mini supports Micro SD card up to 128GB external memory.
Yes, Remix Mini will come pre-installed with Google Play Store. We are also currently going through the GMS testing certification process.
