An update from Jide Team

We launched our first Kickstarter in 2014 with the mission to unlock the power of Android in a two-in-one tablet. From that initial concept, we introduced the world’s first true Android PC with Remix Mini. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved with Remix OS and the response it’s garnered from around the world. But more importantly, we couldn’t have done it without the Kickstarter community.

Over the past year, we received an increasing number of inquiries from enterprises in various industries, and began helping them build great tools for their organizations by leveraging Jide software and hardware. We see huge potential in how Jide can revolutionize the way these businesses operate. And given our existing resources, we decided now to focus our company efforts solely on the enterprise space moving forward.

We’ll be restructuring our entire approach to Remix OS and transitioning away from consumer products. As a result, development on all existing products such as Remix OS for PC as well as products in our pipeline such as Remix IO and IO+ will be discontinued. Full refunds will be issued to ALL BACKERS via Kickstarter for both Remix IO and Remix IO+. In addition any purchases made via our online store that has remained unfulfilled will also be fully refunded. This requires no action from you as we will begin issuing refunds starting August 15th.

Note: It may take ten business days for the refund to appear on a backer's credit or debit card statement. If the initial refund attempt is unsuccessful, we will ensure all refunds are successfully processed. Once a refund has been successfully processed, you will receive an email from Kickstarter indicating the amount of the refund and the payment source refunded.

We’d like to take this moment to thank our incredible community, who’ve joined us on this journey in the last three years to help us build Remix OS. We very much believe that the future of computing is with Android and we're excited for the role Jide will play in this amazing ecosystem.

      Now, that's worrying!

    4. Pauli Vinni 2 days ago

Yep... people can not count... 15+10=?
Like the previous poster did say. The payment will take about ten days. If the situation is same at the end of this month, well then the situation is the normal kicstarter history...

people jumping on the "i didn't get my refund yet" bandwagon.... please read their post. They said it may take up to 10 days to post to your account. That's code for they'll start issuing refunds on the 24th and/or they won't look into your issues until the 25th. I'll be right alongside you complaining about not receiving my refund on the 25th, but until then it's an exercise in futility.

    10. Martin Albert on August 11

Currency exchange for my country has fluctuated up 6% since I pledged. That mean I will lose money when refunded. Unless my credit card company just cancel the original payment and give all my money back. We'll see...

Pay us back sooner . It's money we deserve and we gave it to you with the understanding you would use the bulk to create your device . You required the funds way before the object was started . It's only fair that you release our funds post haste to recompense us as quickly as we funded your dreams .

Good for you that you found a new business goal. You should go for it. But loyalty and promises to your backers are a apparently of no meaning for you. Don't poop a lot and reconsider Jide.

    28. Ian McAlpine on July 22

I use my Remix Mini on a daily basis, so this news is obviously disappointing. At least Jide are doing the decent thing and are refunding backers.

While there were clear problems with the IO+, I'm surprised the IO was not shipped given that it was supposed to be days away from production.

    29. Pauli Vinni on July 21

How Many of these people in here reads the agreement and contract that They jump when They back upp a kicstarter?

"At the same time, backers must understand that Kickstarter is not a store. When you back a project, you’re helping to create something new — not ordering something that already exists. There’s a chance something could happen that prevents the creator from being able to finish the project as promised. If a creator is absolutely unable to complete the project and fulfill rewards, they must make every reasonable effort to find another way of bringing the project to a satisfying conclusion for their backers. For more information, see Section 4 of our Terms of Use. "

So the developer should try to complete the project or try to compensate somehow.
If some one (like me) is "crazy" enough to back upp a project, he should be ready that something can go horribly wrong.
I don't know how valid the JTs reason for chanceling is. But if and when They Are Also chanceling the whole Remix os, the reason has to be quite big... and it is a pity because Remix os has a lot of potential.

Do I plan to support kickstarters Also in the future. Sure, but I would newer recommended kickstarter to someone who actually Expect to receive the product... because sometimes it does not happen. It is a lot of like betting. You can win, or you can lose. I have no experience if someone has ever get his money back if he used them in lottery, or horse races. Maybe in the USA, but most propably not anywhere else...

Am I disapointed? Definetily! Just like after all other kicskaters that has gone badly. But some people here has used very uncivilized lanquage here and there. And that is not, well civilized. There Are good ideas in these messages that reserved to get recognice, I just would not want to read death threats to anyone among those good points and ideas how to solve this situation better. And for that we as an investigators have a naturall right!

kickstarter is dying, one campaign at a time...

      on July 20

This is shocking! You guys could at least finish what was supposed to be almost ready. In any event, never mind. You could at least process reimbursements right away, not in a month time >:^(

    32. Juan G. Arce Santiago on July 20

I demand that any information that this company has on me to be deleted from the archives once the refund is placed and completed. I want in no way or form that my profile info, payment info and any other information of myself to be utilized or aquired by any of the so called "enterprises" nor Jide LLC for that matter.

    33. Patrick Ian Caswell
      on July 20

Well as someone that works in and around enterprises it's obvious what's been done here. A short term loan with only the Kickstarter cut as a flat fee no interest and a market temperature check. You developed a solid product that you will now take to enterprise companies as an Android PC solution. Disappointing but not unexpected as the TV box media market is on the way to it's death due to more powerful phones and streaming options. Best of luck.

    34. Jens Muehleisen on July 19

Just a last thought since this thing is as done as it gets, Jide please be so kind and at least give the work you have done on remix OS as far as you can as open Source to the Community, so people in the community can move this, maybe get this working on the Raspberry Pi and similar hardware.

You owe the community one BIG TIME, so at least don't let the work done on remix OS not rot in some archives that would be a waste and after all Backer money went into the research.

    35. Ahmad Alnaim on July 19

      Is there any alternative?

      David Ellsworth on July 19

I see what happened here – you used your backers as a no-interest loan. Your "enterprises in various industries" will no doubt find this example of how you managed to fail thousands of people. Good luck using that as a business model. I hope you sleep well on this.

    37. Michael-Keggy Wynn on July 19

Are you kidding! What the hell. You had no intention to ship this products, I'd be surprised if you even hit mass production! Why would any company want to get into business with you will probably regret it
I no longer have that credit card or account so I can hope refunds are processed via PayPal.
I feel like I'll just throw my mini in the bin because that will get forgotten about and become unusable

I hope kickstarter takes action against you as I feel some terms must have been broken here!!!

    40. Lee Chung Pak on July 18

      Thanks for the hype-train

    41. Sj Brown on July 18

Wow, what an entitled and ignorant so called " community " .
      Disappointing? yes, anything else? meh.
This is not a store, I didn't " buy " anything, I willingly supported the idea knowing it could go down the tubes. It didn't pan out but at least the cost to me wasn't anything I wasn't able to pay. Oh wait, they are giving me my money back, later than it should be but again getting it back.

Personally I think the decision has more to do with possible legal repercussions considering how this box could be re purposed . I am not surprised.

    42. tripp talbot on July 18

@Pauli Vinni, no one can T&C their way out of contract law, it does not matter what KS T&C's say there is a valid contract formed between the "backer" and the "company". They ask for funds in return for a product/service. What you and kickstarter are trying to say is like the following. Person walks into a shop that has a T&C on the door saying "if you enter we will do the best to supply your goods you are after, if we can't then we have every right to keep your money because you walked in the door". You walk into the shop, ask for $1000 bed, they take your money and then tell you to leave without the goods. That would not fly in any country and would be counted as stealing and breach of contract. People need to stop the bullshit comments of "kickstarter is not a store" it does not matter, a request has been made in return for a product/service that forms a contract. If one party can not fulfill their side of the contract then they must return the funds and/or any damages suffered from the 1st party otherwise they can be sued (which has already happen to a number of kickstarter projects that ran away with the money).

Just to join and subscribe most of the critics made to Jide's decision and unacceptable behaviour in this mess, and above all, for the clear lying through out the io campaign. It really is a shame, and for that you should, at least, apologize! ( to the backers and kickstarter, that must also be grateful for another fail...)
As someone already said, what goes around, comes around...

This is a fucking joke. Look back and look forward from our perspective. Most things I want to say have already been said. You used us and now you screwed us. Hope your new customers get to see what you have done. What does it matter, it's all about the mighty dollar. I have a few campaigns on the go, and that is it. No more Kickstarter for me. This has gone the way of ........

    46. Nicholas Pires
      on July 18

So typical of projects that sell out. Used all the backers for an interest free loan and then pull the plug. Appreciate you're offering full refunds but still this is a poor move.

    47. David Harold on July 18

There's a really good lesson enterprise customers can learn from this... don't do business with you since you can't be relied upon. Very badly done boys...

    48. Michael Mieczkowski on July 18

I would rather have my new toy but I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors and understand why the consumer project had to be stopped with the transition to enterprise. Hope someone figures out a way to keep my original Remix up to date. Probably not though...
