To date, Alaska is one of the most uncharted biking zones in North America. Offering High alpine trails with views of the ocean, volcanoe's, Mt. McKinley and the midnight sun, Alaska is a prime location in which to this project.
Below is the trailer for the Alaska Downhill Brigade. Thus far, this project has been 100% self funded.
In recent years, many extreme sport athletes have spent a lot of time in Alaska searching out the next big line to ride and film. However, the free ride mountain bike community has yet to discover Alaska. As local guides, production crew and riders we have spent the past 10 years searching out areas for this project. We are quite literally pioneering Alaskan free ride mountain biking.
Alaska Downhill Brigade (ADB) started in the fall of 2012 with a small, self-funded budget, a few cameras, some local riders and one day of filming at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood Alaska. After a 16-hr day (and many more hours of editing) we submitted our first edit to the 2012 Adventure Film Festival in Alaska. Out of 15 films, JGS Concepts took home first place. At this point, we decided to take ADB to the next level. Since the first video release we have also won other awards including the Avid Chasing Trail contest on pinkbike.com and bravest award from VitalMTB.com
Over the 2013/14 winter we will be releasing an episode series introducing the ADB crew and athletes. "Brigade" will be a short video series about each person involved in this project.
Below is a small demo of what is to come with the "Brigade" series.
After the release of the Brigade crew series and first episode, we will be traveling around Alaska to film for the full project. We recently purchased a Polaris RZR and installed a custom bike rack to hold up to four bikes. This will serve as our backcountry chairlift during the 2013 summer. With this system we are able to access remote locations on small roads and cross-country trail systems for vehicles. Location is everything and with this vehicle we can access many places previously considered inaccessible.
Starting in May 2014 we will start producing a new episode each month about the stories and areas we are filming. In September 2014 we will have a full movie produced, and will be ready to take it to international film festivals around the world. With special rewards on this Kickstarter project you have the opportunity to be one of a few who will receive an early edition copy of this film before full release.
We have spent years creating the layout for this project. Now with your support we can push forward and turn this concept into a reality. This is not something we just thought up over night. We have built an amazing crew and dedicated hundreds of hours over the past few years to make this happen.
The money we raise with this Kickstarter project will be used to fund editors, filmers, motion graphics, music rights, web development and marketing. We have made it this far on our own, but kickstarter has the potential to help us move forward more quickly with this series and movie.
Please feel free to share this project on your social networks or by email to help us spread the word.
We have many locations that we have been filming at, and with your support will continue to make this project happen. Below is an outline of three of these locations. Click the links to read more about each.
Healy is located in the Alaskan interior right next to Denali National Park. The timeline to film and ride here is very limited, but the location is well worth the six hour drive from Anchorage.

McCarthy is where the road ends and a massive remote wilderness begins. JGS flew and set up GPS coordinates back in 2010 to find some of the most amazing territory to date for this project. To get to McCarthy we have to drive one of the roughest roads in Alaska. Once we arrive in this small town, we then have to charter a plane to get to these areas we have located.

Alyeska resort in Girdwood, Alaska has been called one of the top 10 resorts worldwide for downhill mountain biking. With three lifts to over 15 trails and 2,500 vertical feet of trail, this is a prime location for filming ADB. The JGS crew has been working with the resort for two years, and plan to produce part of this project here.

We have an amazing line up of local Alaskan athletes as well as some professional riders who are going to be joining us in filming this project. We have created full athlete profiles for each rider. Some of our athletes have worked with sponsors such as GoPro, Giant, Specialized, Kona, Monster, Spy Optics, TLD and many more. If you would like to read about and check out the athletes involved in this project click the link below to be directed to our athlete profiles.
Our team of filmers, artists, photographers, directors and production crew will blow your minds. Each person involved in this project has a passion to push forward with ADB. The ADB crew is a team of professionals and has worked on projects with companies such as The Travel Channel, Red Bull, MSP, Outside Television, World Heli Challenge, Roxy, National Geographic and many more. One risk that is always a challenge in any outdoor sports film is the weather. The way we plan to work around the this is by chasing good weather. We will be staying up to date on daily on weather patterns around the locations. The weather in Alaska is always changing so this will be one of our greatest challenges. However, each person involved on this project has experience with this challenge and knows that sometimes we may have to fly or drive many hours just to get the shots we need for this project.
Another potential risk is injured athletes. In this sport, injury is inevitable. However, we have so many amazing athletes coming on board that this really should not be an issue.
The last challenge for this project is our budget. Thus far we have funded everything ourselves-we have sacrificed to make this dream a reality. To take our project to the next level, we need the support of backers and sponsors to push this project forward. Alaska is such an amazing uncharted place and nobody has tried to do anything even remotely close to what we have planned. We appreciate each and every backer we receive. When this project is funded we promise you will not be disappointed.
Regardless of funding our crew will be out doing what we love int he backcountry of Alaska. Whether or not we will have a production crew along is up to you.
