Mental health, marathons, and indie rock'n'roll!
My name is Jessa Graves and this is my project, J. Graves. You might also be familiar with my solo work under the name of HelloKopter, or the once upon a time band of mine with the same name.
Here are some performances I'm really proud of:
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT ?!
In 2018 J. Graves recorded a record in the beautiful Map Room Studio in Portland. All songs were written and performed by me, with Barret Stolte on bass, and Dave Yeager on drums. From start to finish, everything was engineered and mixed by Stan Wright of Buzz or Howl Studios. This is an analog recording (recorded on the same Studer tape machine that tracked both Tom Petty and Metallica)! It was mastered at Telegraph Audio by Amy Dragon and now it's done!
It's time to get this record pressed to vinyl and duplicated to CD.
WHEN IT ALL FLASHED BEFORE MY EYES
This record was born out of my hardest years and brought to fruition because I realized life is way too short and far too precious to not be focused on what you love. In 2017 I faced some health challenges that became the catalyst and motivation for some really positive change. I decided to take control and really focus on my mental health, my physical health, and my passion and purpose, which is and forever will be - music.
In 2018 I quit smoking, did a lot of internal and emotional work, ran a marathon, and recorded this record.
Recording a full length record and having it pressed to vinyl has been a lifelong dream of mine. I can remember being a teenager and tacking track lists to my walls, just trying my hardest to write enough songs. Even then I knew music was my purpose, it was my passion, and I needed it to be complete. I've released 4 EPs to date, but none of them to vinyl and none of them completely (mastered, duplicated, released).
LET'S GET THIS RECORD MADE!
J. Graves is a completely self-funded project. Without label support, recording and releasing a record gets really expensive really quickly. Your preorder of this record will directly fund its production.
EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR COUNTS!
Want to be more involved? There are different pledge levels for your desired engagement. This campaign will run for 30 days. The vinyl and CD orders will be submitted by the end of April. CDs will be ordered to land in May and vinyl, with a four month lead time, will land in September. If you're unable to pledge to the campaign please consider sharing this with your friends that love supporting creative endeavors or with that special vinyl collector in your life! Or like, just with everybody you know - that would also be really great.
REWARD TIER UPDATE! 03/21/19
THIS IS HOW THE BUDGET BREAKS DOWN
- Pressing to vinyl - $3000
- CD duplication - $500
- Extras, design work, shipping - $1000
- Fees - $500
Anything raised beyond $5000 will go to PR to get this music out in front of more listeners and towards touring in support of this release. We'll post stretch goals and new reward tiers if we make it to goal. Like recording and releasing an EP this year too - wouldn't more new music just be so awesome?
MY HEART FOR YOU!
This is my dream. These are my insides. This is my passion and my purpose. This music and this record is everything inside of me. Your preorder of this record is helping me turn this dream into a reality and helping me live my purpose. I am forever grateful for your support. Thank you for helping me do what I love most in this world!
Risks and challenges
This is my first full-length endeavor, but I have surrounded myself with folks with more 4 decades of experience under their collective belts. That said, vinyl production is at the mercy of the press and plant. My research has suggested a 4 month lead time for vinyl and that's why the September fulfillment date. CDs will be duplicated locally and very predictably. I will keep all of you updated with vinyl turnaround time once this project is backed and lacquer masters are off to the press!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
