"It's more fun to be a pirate than to join the navy."
Steve Jobs became part of our lives through his iDevices and Pixar movies. Literally become part of Steve in this Kickstarter project!
Hi, my name is Tamara Fehr. I'm partnering with my husband John to bring you my first project.
Steve Jobs became part of our lives by being the driving force behind many of our favorite computers, mobile devices, and movies through his leadership at Apple and Pixar.
In this Digital Art Kickstarter project, I hope to create a Limited Edition Photo Mosaic poster (24" x 36") of Steve made up of tiny photos of Kickstarters who've been influenced or inspired by Steve, or just love the products he helped bring us.
What is a Photo Mosaic?
A Photo Mosaic is essentially a large picture made up of many tiny pictures. The Photo Mosaic for this project may look something like this from far away:
When you look really close, you can make out the individual pictures the Photo Mosaic is made of. If you looked closely at his right eye, this is what you'd see:
The above tiny photos are examples only, pulled from flickr with Creative Commons Licenses. This 8x8 grid of images would take up 2"x2" if printed. In the final 24" x 36" poster, the tiny photos will be of Kickstarters (hopefully you included!) that back this project.
What my Backers receive:
Once the project is successful, all the backers will receive an URL at which they can upload their photo, preferably of them holding their Macintosh, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, favorite Pixar movie, etc. In order to meet the deadline for the project rewards, there will be a two week period in which you can upload your photo. Inappropriate photos will be discarded. Each accepted photo will appear at least once in the Photo Mosaic.
All the backers will get access to a download of the poster image under a non-commercial creative commons license. That means you can print your own posters for your own use, but you can't sell them. Backing this project at a physical item reward level will be MUCH less expensive than printing your own. The least expensive I found was $40 with shipping.
Backers who choose a physical item reward level will have that item shipped as soon as I get them back from the printers, in an appropriate shipping container.
How did I come up with the goal & awards?
My goal amount was calculated from minimum bulk orders of 100 for poster printing, mailing tube purchasing, and trackable shipping within the USA. This resulted in a total of just under $2300. Add the Amazon+Kickstarter fee of 10%, and we arrive at the $2500 goal. Divide $2500 by 100 gives us $25 for the physical poster reward level.
100 photos won't make a very interesting Photo Mosiac, so to encourage every Steve Jobs fan out there to back the project, I included a reward level at $1 which allows you to upload a photo of yourself and get in the picture!
