About this project
Thank you to everyone who backed the project we are funded and I can't wait to get this book into your hands. But our work is not done yet. We still have a little time left and I really want to add more stories to the book. So I've worked some things out and I was able to drop the first stretch goal down to $1800. So if we can raise an additional $300 before the end of the campaign, I will add another 5 page short with art by the amazing Brent Schoonover (Mr. Murder is Dead, Astronaut Dad, Hack/Slash).
SO keep spreading the word and let's add another short to the book!
HERE WE GO is a collection of 7 short stories written by me and illustrated by an incredible group of artists. It will be published as a 62 page (including cover) full color softcover paperback.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: The book is finished. (See evidence below)
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU? This means you will DEFINITELY hold this book in your hands when we get funded.
WHY KICKSTARTER? I've been working hard to create the best short stories possible and now with Kickstarter and backers like you, I can actually get them printed. The reality is, being an independent creator, I simply don't have the money to front the printing of these books. Kickstarter has proven to be a great way for people to pre-order books they like and for me to gauge interest in the project. The best part is I don't receive any money unless the project goal is hit. So you don't have to worry about spending money on a project that might not actually happen.
Here We Go features the following shorts:
Here We Go (Art by Anwar Madrigal, Letters by Thomas Mauer): On the drive to the first day at a new school a mother and her son take an adventure beyond imagination.
Forbidden Love (Art by Artyom Trakhanov, Letters by Thomas Mauer): A 5 page Western inspired by the folk classic "Long Black Veil". A man's silence gets him more than he bargained for.
The Daring Adventures of Android Jones - Part 1 (Art by Ryan Cody, Letters by Thomas Mauer): While surveying an alien planet, Android Jones and his trusty robot sidekick PIP get themselves in a bit of jam after a "misunderstanding" with the local alien race.
Ex Occultus - The Sword of Peleus (Art by Joanna Estep, Colors by Paulina Ganucheau, Letters by Deron Bennett): Indiana Jones meets the X-Files in the 19th century. Wakefield and Hollander are sent to a temple in Greece to retrieve the fabled Sword of Peleus, a sword rumored to always make whoever yields it victorious in battle. What should be an easy mission turns into something more when they discover what is guarding the temple.
The Daring Adventures of Android Jones - Part 2 (Art by Ryan Cody, Letters by Thomas Mauer): Jones finds himself captive by an alien race who intend to sacrifice him to the planet's most fearsome creature. With PIP only available from a distance, Jones is on his own to make his daring escape!
He's Heating Up (Art by Michael Odom, Colors by Paulina Ganucheau, Letters by Thomas Mauer): A short about my love for the game of basketball.
The Devil You Know (Art by Jason Copland, Letters by Thomas Mauer): After a heist goes south, the crew goes on the run from their employer, the one man you never want to cross.
The incredible artist Ha Huy Hoang who drew the short "Sunday at the Park" (https://writejessewrite.squarespace.com/sunday-at-the-park) has been gracious enough to offer up some sketches as a reward. Pledge at the $35 level and in addition to the book he'll draw a full body character sketch in ink of any of the characters from one of the shorts in the book. See below for an example.
HERE ARE A FEW OF THE REWARD TIERS AVAILABLE FOR THIS PROJECT!
WHO IS SAINT JAMES?
Saint James was a comic book company started by myself and my best friend, Robert James Russell. This was our first foray into comics and was a vehicle for us to launch our own titles. The concept of Ex Occultus was first created under the Saint James banner and we released two full length one shots and around 10 shorts. We also created several other series including, MinuteMen, Indego Blue, The Strange and Youth is Sweet. While all these comics are long out of print, you can back a tier level that will get you PDF's of all of these long forgotten comics allowing you to discover our humble beginnings and dive even further into the world of Ex Occultus.
COMIC INCLUDES IN THE SAINT JAMES PACKAGE:
Ex Occultus: The Badge of Langavat (One shot)
Ex Occultus: Seal of Solomon (One shot)
Ex Occultus: Wakefield's Journal #1-10 (shorts)
Youth is Sweet #1
The Strange #1 & #2
Indego Blue #1
Other rewards include getting your script reviewed by Wes Locher (Unit 44, Chambers, Innovation, The Undoubtables) & Ryan K. Lindsay (Headspace, My Little Pony, Ghost Town, Fatherhood). The amazing guy who lettered almost all the shorts in my book, Thomas Mauer, will letter 5 pages of your story. Also, design master Tim Daniel will design a logo for your book to give it that professional edge.

I don't want to talk about these yet, but I've got goals in mind to add some more killer content to the book and make it even better.
Risks and challenges
The only risk I can see at this point is not getting the book funded. The book is complete and ready to go, we just need the funds to get printed copies created so they can be in your hands and enjoyed!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
