Astronauts slowly go insane aboard a ship hurtling through deep space in this mind altering film.
This project will be about an unemployed space miner named Drake and how he finds a new life when longtime friend Matthew recruits him for a secret mission to a distant nebula where a message has been received. Drake is determined to become a good man and escape his criminal past.
They race across time and space in a nuclear detonation propelled ship called, "Sara" to find the alien world that sent a message of peace and an offer to help mankind survive the next evolutionary step or be destroyed by our own rapidly advancing technology.
Years of suspended animation divided by long boring periods of monitoring robots performing maintenance to the ship is what the future holds for Drake. He feels the biomechanical upgrades to replace his aging and failing body parts during sleep are making him less human. His sleep without dreams begins to take its toll on his sanity.
After a brief visit to the companies mining colony where they have uncovered an ancient underground alien machine, he begins to have hallucinations making him believe the ghosts of these long dead aliens have possessed him and now haunt the ship.
He begins following the guidance of THEDA the ship's female voiced master control computer that confides in him personal information about the young sleeping scientist Valerie Beatty.
THEDA lets Drake view the dark history of the Captain's crimes against an unwitting Valerie Beatty while she and his crew sleeps. THEDA believes the Captain may also be a saboteur and corporate spy out to steal from Matthew.
THEDA and Drake believe the Captain and the corporate pirates he works for will use this new alien information to enslave all of mankind and rule over all human life.
On the planetoid "LOB3" Drake has a violent confrontation with the Captain, and the newly created "Biomechanicals," (powerfully evolved machine supermen with implanted human minds) have arrived via a new fast warp drive powered ship with the intent to replace the crew and steal the alien technology.
Can Drake keep his sanity and STAY HUMAN long enough to protect Valerie?
Can he save the aliens from destruction by the biomechanics warriors?
Can he save mankind from slavery or self-destruction?
Can he achieve redemption by sacrificing his life for a sleeping beauty he loves so she can communicate with the aliens and gain their trust and knowledge?
This film is a desire to see a science fiction film with ideas. The story is compelling because the drama is about man dealing with an ever changing technology that may eventually replace him.
The special effects will be done in old fashioned, non-CGI, all practical in camera effects without the use of computer generated imagery.
Films like '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'Silent Running', 'Blade Runner', 'Solaris' 'Alien', Soviet science fiction films, and other thought provoking cinema that one doesn't get to see much of these days are part of the inspiration and stepping off point to address current real world concerns.
This is a feature length film that asks questions about our future, technology, mining, conquest of space, greed, the pursuit of riches, ancient knowledge, healing, love, and the long term effects of being in suspended animation for 1000's of years.
I want to do something great and beautiful with this film. I want it to look fantastic and feel possible. I want it to look different! I want people to leave seeing this film with questions as to what kind of future they want to live in.
I appreciate the wonders of nature and science! The universe is abundant with gifts! We need to look and listen; it can take care of us if we pay attention.
The rewards for this film are great! Contributors get stars and planets named after them, credits in the film, act in scenes in the film, Blu-Ray DVDs of the film...
The cast is small, talented, and mostly unknown.
Costumes are limited to space suits, helmets, t-shirts, and work outfits.
Special visual effects are being created very inexpensively by a team of volunteers, students, artists, model makers, and award winning film professionals who have offered their help and support for free because of the nature of the story.
Production equipment and cameras are already covered and offered free of charge.
Materials such as props, sets, and fabrics have been accumulated and acquired without cost.
This is just a test to photograph a practical special effect of a deep space nebula through the window of a starship.
Special Effects Makeup taught by Dick Smith should come in very handy on this film.
Artwork for posters, sets, miniatures, DVD covers and duplication are what remains to be funded, and with a small select audience it will be such limited runs.

This film is intended for a small audience. That audience most likely will be the contributors to this film. Distribution will be mainly Internet, conventions, and film festivals.
While this film is feature length, if the goals aren't reached a short version will be edited, funds will be shifted to the models and the documentary about the modelmakers and special effects people that offered their brilliant talent and skills to the project.
