About the Book
If you're a coffee lover, caffeine addict, or just love damn good food, this book is for you. It explores coffee, arguably the world's most consumed beverage, from a whole new angle. What's it like to cook with?
Can you make pasta, jams, butter, or crackers using coffee. Yes, yes you can... and so much more. Made with Coffee infuses everything from breakfast to dessert with fun, easy, and delicious coffee-based recipes.
This Pastry-Wrapped Pear with Coffee Caramel is one of our favorites!
Don't worry, Made with Coffee is not only dessert recipes. We really focused on pushing the limits of using coffee as a spice, just as you would say, clove or cinnamon. Sometimes spices are in the foreground and sometimes the background.
Mushroom risotto, coffee & pomegranate lamb chops, and cocoa roasted beets are just a few of the recipes you will find in this book.
Not everything will taste like coffee, because Made with Coffee is about cooking with it, not drinking it. Though, we may have snuck in a few drink recipes too!

About the Authors
This project is being run by two well seasoned food bloggers (pun intended) who are both Kickstarter veterans.
Jerry James Stone has a vegetarian and vegan food blog by the same name. He launched his first Kickstarter about three years ago to produce his first cookbook, Holidazed. You can also find him on YouTube or even cooking on Facebook Live.
K.C. Cornwell is best known as the G-Free Foodie (and previously know as Ms. Pomering, until her recent marriage). Her first Kickstarter launched a gluten-free box delivery service, before everyone else had a subscription box. Her delicious g-free recipes have made her Facebook famous.
How it Began
Made with Coffee began about four years ago, when Jerry was still living in San Francisco, and had discovered Philz Coffee. Located just around the corner from where he lived, Philz had everything Jerry loved about the San Francisco food scene: community, good people, and great coffee.
Soon he had developed a friendship with the company's CEO, Jacob Jaber, over Twitter. Jerry is addicted to Twitter... just saying. Anyway, he decided to use Philz in a few of the recipes he was doing for Discovery Channel, and they were a hit. Then over a few beers and some great pizza, Jerry and Jacob thought a book could be a fun way to work together.
It wasn't. Frustrated by the publisher experience, they paused the project.
When Jerry had started his own blog about six months later, his fans quickly asked for a book. He tried out Kickstarter for the first time and published Holidazed, which was fully funded in just three days.
Books are like tattoos, you can't do just one. For his second book, he decided to revisit this cooking with Philz idea. So, really, his first book is actually his second, and this book will be his first. Or something like that.
Anyway, from the get-go, he knew he couldn't do it alone. You cannot explore an ingredient, and do it justice, when you have a dietary restriction. He's been a vegetarian since 1986.
Luckily, K.C. came to save the day! And before we knew it, the team had grown. It's now a mix of published authors, home cooks, up and coming food bloggers, and Cupcake Wars winners.
In short, this book is bad ass.
Why This Book Matters
Home cooked food is the best. It's created and catered to you. And there are many benefits to home cooking, such as cost. It is simply cheaper.
There's an emotional component too. Cooking connects us to the food we eat. It's not just brought over by a server, it's a deeper relationship. When you cook, you care.
Where your food comes from, who grew it, is it organic, and how the growers were treated, are just a few things you become mindful of. It's spiritual, in a way.
Let's face it, not everyone likes to cook. We believe exploring ingredients in fun and new ways is the perfect way to address that. By thinking out of the box, we hope to get more and more people cooking. And if we do, we have done our job.
How This Works
Well, first, you are going to fund us because you love coffee, food, and everything about it.
We already have a good portion of the recipes done. But this book is more than food. We will also touch on the history, science, and culture of coffee. Trust us, we got you.
Once we are funded, we will wrap production and send the book off to the printer. Right now, that is probably February. Three months later, Made with Coffee will be shipped to you.
Producing, creating, and printing a book isn't cheap. Here is a breakdown of what our goal of $15,000 will go towards:
- recipe testing
- food photography and props
- paying contributors for their work
- research on the history, science, and culture of coffee
- copy editing the book
- graphical design
- book designer
- printing the books
- shipping the books
- promoting the book
And trust, it adds up quickly. But with your help, when we reach our goal, we can do this!
Risks and challenges
Every project faces some risk, that’s what makes them fun! But we’ve done our homework, launched successful Kickstarters before, and are as prepared as we can be. A lot of the recipes and photography has been done. We have gotten price quotes on everything, from design to printing.
What’s left is to get the book printed and shipped to you!
