About this project
Luno the Moon Rover
Hello, and thanks for stopping by! With your help, we'd like to launch Luno the Moon Rover: a character-based spaceship created by Sergey Safonov. Luno is both an art sculpture and a toy for painting and playing. It is designed with storytelling in mind. We hope to fund this project on April 12th and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first man in space.
Luno the Moon Rover is about 5 inches in diameter with three spinning wheels. Mini Luno is about 3 inches in diameter. Both sizes of Luno will be made of hand-cast resin and painted glossy white. All pictures here are of Luno the Moon Rover. Please follow our updates to watch the progress of Mini Luno with Crazy Label!
Founded by Andy Woo in Hong Kong, Crazy Label has made some of the greatest, most fun, functional and aesthetically pleasing art toys. We are delighted they are on board to produce Luno the Rover.
About the Designer
Toy designer, Sergey Safonov, dreamed of space travel all throughout his childhood in Russia. As a kid, Sergey was surrounded with space memorabilia: He had tons of space related-books and magazines, space food (tiny bricks of bread and space tubes) and April 12th was a family holiday. The only problem Sergey had with space toys was that all of them were replicas of spaceships and mechanisms, and he was looking for characters with which to play and tell stories. Now Sergey Safonov is grown up with a young son of his own, so he is trying to create his own space character: Luno the Moon Rover.
Sergey has been creating characters and producing original, hand-made toys for many years. His work has appeared in the books Dot Dot Dash and Art-Toys and the magazine, Design Bureau. He is currently working on a picture book about his characters, the Gooma. The following photos are several of Sergey's original resin toys. They are available as part of one of the reward options for people who pledge to help produce Luno the Moon Rover.
Where the Funding Goes
Sergey has paid for the sculpture and initial prototypes of Luno.
Each full-size Luno costs about $50-55 for hand-made manufacturing (consisting of casting, sanding, painting, packaging). The additional costs are for worldwide shipping. When you make a pledge here for your Luno, it is comprehensive of all costs, and covers the making of your Luno and his travels through space to your house.
When we receive the Kickstarter funds, we will order the Lunos! With your pledges, we can pay Crazy Label to make and ship the Lunos. We are also hoping to fly Sergey to Hong Kong to sign the Luno packaging before the figures ship out to you.
Please note that we will need 2-3 weeks after the project is funded to make the Lunos. We will keep in touch with you through updates.
