About
Role-Playing Games (RPG's) have always had a variety of different methods for determining critical hits and their impacts. From rolling on charts, to randomly drawing cards, to 10 sided dice. For the past 8 years my friends and I have been using a custom set of 3 six sided dice that I had produced by Chessex.
Now, back In the eighties and nineties my friends and I would simply say a critical hit meant "double damage" and a fumble meant "you drop your weapon". As we grew up and our game playing became more sophisticated I was inspired to create a set of 3 six sided dice to add just the right amount of flexibility to what a critical hit and a critical fumble could mean.
So 10 years, ago I had these dice manufactured and I gave them to my friends as gifts. Each set included 1 Critical Hit die, 1 Critical Fumble die, and 1 Hit Location Die.

Since then, every game convention I attended, I would get the question "Oh cool where can I buy those dice?". Well, you couldn't. Until now.
Recently we introduced some new players to our group and that question came up yet again... where can I get those dice? So I thought... you know what? Why not do a Kickstarter? I get so many requests for these dice, I really want to make them available to everyone.
So here we are!
These dice are high quality 16mm 6 sided dice that are laser etched. No need to worry about the ink wearing off over time. There are 3 dice in each set (as pictured above).
By supporting this Kickstarter, not only are you going to get some really cool high quality dice, but you are also helping to open the door to potentially having these dice manufactured on a larger scale and maybe even made available in your FLGS. Wouldn't it be cool to be a part of something like that?
You may be wondering "what are the six sides on each die?". Here is the breakdown:
Critical Hit Die
- Double Damage
- Triple Damage
- Max Damage
- Stun
- Sever Limb
- Death
Critical Fumble Die
- Hit Self
- Hit Ally
- Drop Weapon
- Break Weapon
- Fall
- Knocked Out
Hit Location Die
- Head
- Torso
- Right Arm
- Left Arm
- Right Leg
- Left Leg
That's all there is to it. Just the right amount of variability to make your role-playing game that much more fun.
Risks and challenges
Production time is approximately 10 weeks. Manufacturing runs need to submitted in phases. Each phase is a run of 150 sets of dice. Manufacturing time between phases may be as little as 4 weeks but up to 10 weeks.
In the unlikely event the manufacturer runs out of dice, this may delay shipment of a phase by up to 6 months.
To mitigate your risk as a supporter, you will want to be one of the first 150 supporters in order to increase your chances of being in the first or second phase print run.
