Hello everyone! My name is Juan Pedraza and I'm a 24 year old game developer looking for the creation of amazing video games for everyone to enjoy! Here I am presenting to you the idea of a new video game I'm working on that will hopefully make everyone feel scared and excited at the same time!
I already have a long time of experience in game development, dating from way back in 2007 with the blam! engine used for Halo Custom Edition, then to CryEngine and finally Unreal Engine before deciding in 2015 to start with Unity and work on bigger projects using previous experience, here's my portfolio for you to take a look at:

This game is a First Person Survival SciFi Horror Game. The game revolves around a very peculiar kind of horror called Cosmic Horror, making the player feel the fear of the unknown and unfathomable and struggling to survive in situations you may call hopeless. The player will be able to make use of guns, however, that will not be the main focus, guns won't be enough to deal with the enemies I have in store. You have to use your wits and take decisions in order to make it through.
I know there are many survival horror games out there, but I have the hope that the beautiful but at the same time frightening atmosphere combined with the enemies will allow this game to be one of the scariest games you are gonna play.
The story takes place on a planet which name is still classified, a week prior to the events of the game a scientific research team went missing on that planet, they were studying the flora, fauna and vestiges of an ancient civilization that dissapeared thousands of years ago without leaving a trace. Althought the planet looks lush and full of life, it's pretty much devoid of sentient beings and animals. An exploration android was sent to the last place the scientific team was seen to unravel the mysterious event.
Nothing but some equipment and traces of blood were found, the team is gone and most likely dead, their ship is in no better shape either, having crashed nearby, making potential escape impossible, close analysis to the ship shows no external damage, discarding the possibility of getting attacked by known enemies, however, a very insteresting discovery was made when reaching the ship.
A mysterious dome-like structure is found by the exploration android, on closer inspection it seems to have a very peculiar energy signature. there's no way the long dead civilization was responsible for building this... thing. It looks organic, something completely different from what the temples nearby are. A distress beacon is detected but before it can be analyzed the android gets attacked by an unknown force cutting off the signal.
The research team was obviously attacked but by whom or what remains unknown, one thing is certain, some of them might still be alive, military intervention will be required, this is where you and your team come into play.
You are the leader of the eight man special operation team sent to deal with the situation at hand, you will fight along with them and make your way through many obstacles and horrors to get to your objective, which is locate and secure the potential survivors from the research group.
The characters are still nameless, but there's a good reason for that, reason that will be explained in the rewards section, these characters will support you in many ways, but they can also get killed at any point if you are not careful, making your journey more challenging if they die early.
They are eager to fight but they are also there to support you, give you health, ammo and intel about enemies or terrain in dire situations, so take good care of them.
There are three mains aspects when it comes to the art and design of the game, the natural environments will all be tropical in nature, having jungles, swamps, caves, beaches and cenotes.
I will make sure to carefully craft to the detail every single level to ensure the most immersive experience, just be careful, who knows what might lurk behind those trees and rocks.
This planet used to be inhabited by an ancient civilization who left a lot of beautiful cities and temples, they will all look like real life buildings made by ancient Mayan and Aztects, it's only fitting for such environment and mystery.
However, that's not all you're gonna find, there will be moments where you will stumble across very enigmatic buildings bio mechanical in nature, these mysterious buildings will leave you wondering who made them and why, what's their purpose and what happened to those who made them, they are obviously very important to the story.
The game is still in early development, I'm working on the art elements and level design as well as the script and plot elements. However, I already have many of the key elements that make a videogame, already having the following:
- Health system for player and AI.
- AI code for different kinds of behaviors.
- Main menu with level selection.
- Pause menu with control panel to customize graphics, audio and controllers.
- Weapon system with ammunition, reloading and weapon exchange.
- Power-ups for health, ammo, etc.
- Score system.
- Player movement, jumping, sprint, aiming, etc.
I already have most of the main aspects of the game covered, all I need to worry about is the programming of event-exclusive elements, as well as level and character designs, which might seem like much, but with your help, I can get it done before the year ends.
Once I have the first playable version in alpha stage, I'm gonna put it on Steam Greenlight and request your help so it makes it through and then all the backers who pledged for the Bronze Pack or above will have early access! Those with the Standard Pack will have access once the game is way ahead of alpha stage nearly in the final version.
The picture above is pretty self explanatory but I will explain it better here, the main goal for my campaign will allow me to get something I truly need but haven't been able to afford, the Adobe Creative Suite, I really need Photoshop rather than GIMP to really make the best quality possible for textures, I also need to work on better UI & HUD elements and for that I'm gonna need Adobe illustrator, I want to use Premiere Pro and After Effects for better video editing for future video teasers/trailers and I also want to make my own website for the game and other projects rather than just using WordPress, I know how to create websites, so I want to make use of Dreamweaver for that.
Now then... assuming my campaign is successful in reaching it's goal and I get extra funding then depending on how much extra I get is what I'm gonna do to it, it can go from more uninterrupted development time, getting 3ds Max for a year or at least 6 months, to even traveling to Mayan archeological sites located a few hours away driving from my city, the reason for that trip is that I want to capture the essence of such places to add more realism into the game, the environment used for the videos is very basic in my opinion and I want to make a truly immersive atmosphere for your enjoyment and fear... :)
However, if i get more funding than I thought (over 100k) then I'm gonna take the 25% of that extra (past 100k) funding and use it to buy food, water and clothing to the poor living near archeological sites. This is Mexico, there's poverty, and I'm fed up with the lack of help for people who really needs it as well as lack of opportunity for some, so whatever little help I can provide, I hope I make someone smile with it.
I have enough experience to pull this off and make the game, however, your support will truly make a huge difference, you will allow me to finish this project twice as fast and allow me to put attention into details, making a more convincing environment and gameplay.
Getting better tools will allow me to improve the overall quality of absolutely everything and I do mean EVERYTHING, the game will looks so polished you will be addicted to it.
Your support will make this game go from just a not-bad game, to an incredible horror game worth being in a top 10, you have my word.

Risks and challenges
The only risk I really have during the development of this project will be the time I'm gonna take to finish it, my aim is to be past alpha and near final version of the game before the year ends BUT if I have to, I will take longer, all for the sake of having the best quality I could possibly offer to my dear backers and gamers out there.
