My Debut Album is fully funded! I am so grateful to everyone who has pledged and supported this campaign, thank you so much for taking this time to share in this incredible journey with me. What a brilliant feeling.
There is still some time left though and I absolutely want to make the most of this fantastic opportunity so I’m not cracking open the bubbly just yet. Looking towards my first stretch goal, I hope to raise funds for the album launch event in Leeds on the 7th July. The whole event will be beautifully orchestrated by 8 goddesses with 6 singer-songwriters sharing their hearts in a carefully considered space for music and audiences to breathe.
Join me for the launch of my album and experience what I believe is the way we should listen to the female singer-songwriter. For all who can’t make it, it will be lovingly captured through film and photography and sent out to all backers after the event.
Solo acts confirmed so far are; Miranda Arieh - http://www.mirandaarieh.com/ Vicky Whelan (of DragonflyTattoo) - http://dragonflytattoo.co.uk/ Fran Wyburn (of Fran Wyburn and the Indigos) - http://www.franwyburn.com/ Lisa Marie Glover - http://lisamarieglover.bandcamp.com/
Everyone who pledges £1 or more will have their name listed on my website in a special place alongside this album. You are helping me achieve my vision and I am eternally grateful.
There has been some debate about the CD verses Digital release and so I’m taking the time to explain my decision. For everyone who purchase a copy of the album, a digital download will automatically be sent to you 2 weeks before its digital release. This is my first album and is a collection of songs written at life changing moments with some as old as 15 years. The release of this music has been a long time coming and it is important for me to honour its distribution. I would like this heart treasure to find its way into your hands beautifully packaged and songs arranged in a considered way. Perhaps, after some time, you might gift your copy to another and then it becomes a symbol of exchange between two friends. However you choose to handle it, I want to allow opportunity for a personal touch that can so often be lost in this mass sea of internet and all things digital.
After this batch of CDs I may never burn another. Perhaps I will only make Vinyl available. But I know this, that for the next 6 months, my heart will exist in the form of 1000 lovingly created CDs that have gone out to find their place in the world. After this time, I hope to have let go of my love affair with Alone on the Moon and be looking to share new ideas and projects. The digital release will mark the start of this new era with the launch of my career to a wider audience. I hope you can be a part of this special time and, if you are local to the Leeds area, the launch event in July is looking like its going to be a huge success. I hope to see you there.
I am a solo artist, but have had the pleasure of working with musician and producer Jeromy Darling over the last year. I recorded my guitar and vocals for this debut album and then sent them over to Jeromy in America where he and his friend Kurt Larson added effects and instruments. This album is very much created from my heart space and to have had these other musicians ‘speaking back’ through the music has been wonderful. I have booked in a date with a London based producer and will be mixing and producing the 9 track album at the end of May. Here are rough mixes of 3 of those tracks that will feature on this album that Jeromy and Kurt have been involved with.
The producer who will be working on the album moving forward has given us this rough mix of my recordings
A Remix by Urban Exploration of the above recordings. This will not feature on the album.
Alone on the Moon is a collection of songs created during 9 life changing moments.
Each song was written with tears in my eyes and hairs standing up on the back of my neck as I looked out across miles and miles of familiar yet forgotten shores.
From the feminine to the masculine, this is a collection of moments for us all. Vocal and guitar recordings are ready to meet their producers, masterers, designers and distributors and arrive lovingly crafted into your hands.
In the updates section I have shared my journey so far and those precious moments from where the songs were written. If we reach our monetary target and beyond, I will be able to commission other artists and musicians. I will be able to send this album to bloggers and press for them to put their experience of the music into words and help it to reach a wider audience.
All of the songs on my debut album have been written at times of strong emotion and as a consequence are very close to my heart. I set up a couple of mics in my own home, created and connected to a personal space and captured performances that I feel do the songs justice. I am so excited to share these recordings with you.
Capturing these performances was the 1st step in what has turned into a 3 year process. Feeling like these songs were destined for great things meant nothing if I did not have the courage to share them with you.
Step 2 was to look at myself as an artist and face those demons that were preventing me from sharing my art. For the last year I have been doing just that; exploring the re-occuring themes that have frequented 20 years of song-writing and figuring out what my values as an artist are. I have done some strong work here and found a sense of clarity that has given me surer footing.
A studio performance I am proud of is a version of my song Love Soup. Recorded at the beginning of this 3 year journey and just before I gave everything up to follow my dream of being an artist. This moment, captured by James Straker at Leeds College of Music is life defining; though I did not know I was about to take a leap of faith I could feel myself connecting to the words like never before.
Collaborating with American based musician and producer Jeromy Darling has been instrumental in getting me to where I am now. At the beginning of our communication I was quite protective of these recordings, but working with such a great artist has reminded me of why I enjoy creating music. It has taken me out of my head and I have remembered that I was only ever meant to write and record these songs. The 9 track debut album is now ready to meet its producers and designers. I can't wait to share this journey with others.
While pursuing crowdfunding has been the most exciting and terrifying thing I have ever done; it has felt like a very natural step. As an unsigned artist, securing a record deal is an inviting prospect but I have not felt strong enough to manage this type of relationship. This 3 phase process has felt fragile - I needed space to connect with my heart and record out of a studio. I needed to face my demons in my own time and at my own pace.
I have finally reached this final phase of reaching out and connecting with you. It is the end of the beginning in building a strong foundation; creating a support network myself makes me that much stronger, braver and a step closer to becoming that woman that I see in my minds eye. It is one thing having a dream and quite another making it a reality. I have needed to go through this alone.
Even if we do not succeed in reaching our Kickstarter goal, you are still invited to Seven Arts in Leeds on the 7 July 2016. I have much to celebrate and would love to perform for you alongside other female singer-songwriters who have been sharing a creative journey with me. Dreams do not go away, but they do change and evolve, and regardless of the outcome here in 30 days this journey for me, and other artists will continue.
Thank you for taking the time. Your well wishes and support is invaluable to me. I am infinitely grateful and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Risks and challenges
There are very few risks and challenges here; this is about the journey, not the destination. If you pledge money today and we do not achieve our monetary goal tomorrow, the money will not leave your account. If we do reach our target then the album created is dependent on producers, masterers, designers and distributors. I am currently in communication with 6 potential producers and know that there are many more out there. I believe that working with recommended professionals is about setting deadlines and making decisions in response to these. While I will maintain management of this, I am ready to release control of the creative process and allow the musicians and artists who become a part of this process do what they were born to do.
In the unlikely event that the CD album is not created in time for the 7 July launch, a celebration event will go ahead and the album and all other rewards (except the final 2) will arrive with you shortly afterwards. This will be the end of a 3 year process and I have much to be thankful for. I am looking ahead now, to creating new art and music. It is a very wonderful feeling.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
