Signatur- is a short horror comic that was drawn in a little over a month by yours truly, supported by funding from my incredible patrons.
I wanted to make a short one-shot story for my biggest comic convention of the year (Thought Bubble, here in Leeds, UK), and decided on the fly that it was just time to bite the G-Pen and DO IT.
The result is a totally-not-autobiographical tale of a comic creator going insane from spending way too much time in total isolation due to the nature of her profession.
Again, so very not autobiographical. *side eye*
(Content Warning: This horror comic deals with death and isn't suitable for readers under 18)
The comic itself is now DONE and ready to go!
This simple Kickstarter is to help me offset the printing costs of making Signatur- a physical thing! It's no secret that the two most expensive things for an independent comic creator like myself are Printing and Postage.
I am currently looking at printing ~50 copies, which is what the goal of £100 is for.
(If there is more interest in this short cautionary tale of what overwork can do to you, I can increase the number of copies printed)
If you like what you see and you'd like to pre-order a copy, that would be amazing!
And, if you happen to be a book shop owner who stocks self-published indie-comics, there's a special reward on the side where you can pre-order 5 copies wholesale, if you like!
Each page was drawn traditionally using pencil, ink and a small dab of white gouache.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and having a peek at my comic!
Risks and challenges
With the comic already completed and ready to go (and with one other successful comic Kickstarter campaign under my belt), the main risks/challenges I can see myself having to tackle would be in the printing and postage processes themselves.
I have, however, a superb printer who almost exclusively prints comics and did all my previous print runs of Jenitales (that other Kickstarted comic project!), so I consider him to be extremely dependable!
This Kickstarter is also very simple in what it aims to produce: a printed comic, posted out to everyone who preorders. So there are no other extra bits like stickers/merch/art prints etc. That hopefully means we won't run into any surprises!
If something DOES come up and the process is delayed, I will of course let you guys know ASAP and keep you informed of what's what!
As for postage... Luckily, the postal service was relatively dependable for me when I did the previous Kickstarter, but, if a book is lost, let me know and we will sort it!
I also always post my comics in sealed plastic bags, packed in boardbacked neutral envelopes, to protect them from the forces of transit :D
If there are any other issues that may arise in the next month when I am having this printed, I will be sure to keep you all up to date on it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
