Paya Returns (Canceled)
An outreach campaign & feature film that follows three Paiute women as they recover their tribe's water rights, 150-years forgotten.
Risks and challenges
Obstacles include raising additional funding for post-production once principal photography is complete. Additionally, principal on this project is inextricably linked to the legal case. Therefore, principal could go beyond the expected time depending on the legal pursuit. Our plan is to keep backers updated with bi-annual short films detailing our progress.
It is nearly impossible to make a feature documentary film from start to finish for less than $30k which is what we're asking for. However, it is important to note that this is only seed money. As with the short film, we raised funds beyond Kickstarter through grants, private donors, and event screenings. We will be applying for numerous grants and will continue to generate revenue through event screenings, the apparel line, and DVD/Bluray sales of our short film which is now in festivals. The post-production process will also be a separate budget.
Distribution is typically the single greatest obstacle any film faces. Our plans are to take the completed feature film through festivals and attract a distribution deal that includes a theatrical release in Academy qualifying venues. Throughout the course of our campaign we will seek partnerships with larger production companies specializing in social change content in an effort to secure distribution even prior to festivals.
The sky is the limit. Everything just below the sky is an obstacle, and we will no doubt overcome them in creative and meaningful ways. Join us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
