A Little Bit About Me:
Ever since I can remember, I've been fascinated by the surreal, macabre, and grotesque. When I was younger, I went to see Fantasia, and I fell in love with the bizarre and horrific imagery. The “Night on Bald Mountain” scene, with the devil dancing with his demons, excited and intrigued me. I grew up to love horror movies, goth music, and anything that touched on the morbid and gruesome.
I have been an artist for over fifteen years, and all of my work focuses on the female figure. My work has been featured in publications such as the Canadian erotica magazine IN MY BED, and the Philadelphia-based arts and fashion magazine NUMiNOUS. I have shown my work at galleries internationally, including Chateau L'Amour Gallery in Ontario, California, Penumbra Art Boutique & Studio in Loures, Portugal, and The Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
I find inspiration in pinup art and classical nudes, and I love combining illustration with fine art. In art school, my professors urged me to choose one path or the other. Yet I want to bring together different traditions of art to represent the female body. I want my art to live in a space between popular culture and high art.
I represent female figures in horrific, nightmarish, surreal, and sometimes erotic settings. When I show my work in art galleries, I love to watch people’s reactions. It is never what I expect. Sometimes, parents will try to shield their children’s eyes, but then their kids are drawn to my weird and creepy images. Often, I see couples where one partner responds with disgust while the other is intrigued. I want my art to provoke a range of different responses. I think art should challenge us and make us question our reality and our desires.
About The Book:
This will be the very first book of my art. It will give people a chance to experience my artwork in a different, new, and exciting way.
The book will be hardcover (8.5" x 11") with approximately 80 pages. It will contain:
- Approximately 50 pieces of my artwork
- Between 6 - 8 brand new pieces of original art made specifically for this collection
- Reproductions of some of my earliest work – including some works that have never been published or seen before!
- Narratives interpreting some of my most disturbing and dreamlike pieces
- Artist’s biography
- Artist’s interview
The book is entitled “Little Nightmares” because I am obsessed with vivid and terrifying dreams. Some of my pieces are directly inspired by my own nightmares. Others are inspired by folktales, films, myths, and urban legends that communicate society’s nightmares. All of my work explores the fantastical experience of dark, dream-like spaces and the unsettling feelings we have in these spaces.
The money made from this Kickstarter will pay for:
- Printing and publishing the book (hardcover)
- Distribution costs for making the book available at stores such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon
- Art supplies that will go towards creating new works of art for the book
- Copyrighting all of the written articles and new works of art
Some of the artworks to be included in this book will be:

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge that I can see with this project would be the amount of production time, because I want to make sure that the book looks as perfect as possible. I have never made a book before so working out all of the details and specifics with the publisher could take longer than normal.
I will be creating approximately 5 - 8 new works of art to include in the book - each piece, depending on size and materials, can take me anywhere from one week to one month to complete.
With making these new works of art, designing and formatting the cover and layout for the book, and writing the introductory bio I estimate that I would need at least 7 - 9 months to complete and print the book. I will keep every kickstarted backer updated with progress on the book using a tumblr specifically for the book project. I will upload videos, photos, and blog posts to the tumblr.
I will do everything within my power to have the book completed, printed, and ready to be shipped by January 2017. However, there is always the very small risk that something may not go as planned and might delay this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
