Jeff Beam's Loudspeaker Wallpaper

Hello there. Happy August. It's been a little while since my last message. I've been in the laboratory making new sounds. All kinds of great things to report.

First of all, thank you all again for supporting me for the pressing of Be Your Own Mirror. The album made more of a splash in the music world that I'd envisioned, and I couldn't have done it without the gracious financing of my friends. A good-looking CD can make all the difference, as I've found out.

The success of the record has led me to put out another release. For the first time, I made a record with my live backing band. And, the group of three incredible musicians who continuously back me up finally have a name. After years of going by "Jeff Beam & Friends", we've become more than friends, and we're ready to take it to the next level. Collectively, we'll be called Jeff Beam's Loudspeaker Wallpaper. New name, same characters: Sam Peisner on bass, Scott Nebel on guitar, and Jacob Wolk on drums.

The band helps re-create my studio recordings & bring my songs to life in a way that I could never do on my own. As a result, the songs sometimes start to stray away slightly from their original arrangements on the studio albums, and they take on a new kind of sound & energy. Thus, we have decided to put out an album documenting the band's live sound in a studio setting. The self-titled Jeff Beam's Loudspeaker is an 8 song LP recorded entirely live with no overdubs. We were joined by Cam Jones on a variety of instruments. You all may be particularly interested to know that 7 of the 8 songs featured are new renditions of songs from Be Your Own Mirror.

We've just put up the first single from the album, "Congratulations on Your Latest Achievement". It's available at jeffbeammusic.com. Enjoy the single for a while, and then keep an eye out for the full album to appear as well. We're currently accepting pre-sales for the compact disc, too.

The album, recorded by Dominic Lavoie, came out pretty well. In fact, we're so psyched that we're holding a huge celebration to coincide with the release on AUGUST 23rd at Port City Music Hall. If you can believe it, Dom's band ShaShaSha is celebrating with a release of their own on the same day. Our very good friends The Toughcats round out the bill on the 23rd, and Amarantos Quartet will serve as the house band for the evening. By my calculations, it's going to be the party of the summer. I can feel it.

We're quite proud of the album, and this is sure to be one of our most exciting shows, so we very much encourage you to attend this one. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by clicking here.

For now, enjoy the single, and keep your eyes & ears peeled for the rest of the album to unveil itself. We'll be also playing a free warm-up show in Monument Square in the center of Portland on Thursday, August 8th at 5pm.

Thank you all again for assisting me with my previous record, and for allowing me to keep you posted of my current musical endeavors. I encourage you to check out the new music. If you enjoyed Be Your Own Mirror, then Jeff Beam's Loudspeaker Wallpaper is sure to spark your interest as well.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

June, June, June

Happy June, everyone. It's kind of gross & rainy in Maine at the moment, but it allows for a peaceful weekend to decompress. The month of May turned out much crazier than I'd anticipated.

IMPORTANT: if any of you have been expecting a CD and have not received one, please let me know! The US Postal Service has its slip-ups from time to time and perhaps some of you changed addresses since the beginning of this project. I want to make sure everyone who earned a CD gets one.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to making this happen. It's still kind of surreal. I like the idea of letting the music speak for itself, but the reality is that sometimes a well-packaged product makes all the difference as to whether or not someone will check it out. That being said, I think I owe some thanks for all the positive reviews the album has received. You can read a good chunk of them here.

I also wanted to let you know that the momentum is still building, and that even more exciting things are on the horizon. After the successful April tour, I quite wasn't sure what to do next. So, when I got the call from Soft Bullets (UK) asking if I'd want to tour with them, it was a no-brainer. Here are our upcoming dates together:

  • June 19 @ the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY
    8pm // all ages // $10
    w/ Soft Bullets & Wintersleep
    -
  • June 20 @ the Barley Pub in Dover, NH
    9pm // 21+ // free
w/ Soft Bullets & Tan Vampires
    -
  • June 21 @ Church in Boston, MA
    8pm // 21+ // $8
    w/ Soft Bullets
    -
  • June 22 @ The Firehouse in Worcester, MA
    9pm // 18+ // pay what you want
w/ Soft Bullets, Sexy Neighbors, Broadcaster, & Graywolf
    -
  • June 23 @ Empire in Portland, ME
    9pm // 21+ // $6
w/ Soft Bullets & Sea Level

Exciting, to say the least. The NYC & Portland shows will be full-band gigs. It's well known that Dan Capaldi drums for Soft Bullets, so I'm sure he & I will collaborate in some form at the other shows.

The other big news for now is: the release of my brand new music video for the song "Whispering Poison in his Ear". Check it out, I think it came out well:

That's all for now. Cheers!

Be Your Own Mirror

Howdy everyone,

Just a quick update today. The artwork is finalized, as you'll see below. Also, check out the tour flyer - there's a fair chance that I'll be coming to a city near you.

Your digital copy of the album should be arriving within a week or, stay tuned!

Que c'est fini!

It's official. As I'm sure you've all realized (via your bank accounts feeling a tad bit slimmer), my Kickstarter has ended, and the project is being funded at 109%.

To those who pledged, I really can't thank you enough. I can't describe how great it feels to have so many people believe in me and support me so swiftly. I should be getting back the mastered version of the album within the week, so that means digital copies for everyone are right around the corner. I'll be collecting your contact info soon so that I can get stuff out to you.

Until then, enjoy this video from the "Jeff Beam & Friends" performance from this past Tuesday (Feb 28th) at Port City Music Hall in Portland, Maine.

Also, notice the attached flyer. The CD release show is April 6th; it will be probably the only time that the band & I will play the new album in it's entirety. Since you all were so vital to this album, I strongly urge you to attend if at all possible.

Stay tuned for more updates soon, and thank you all again.
