WELCOME TO VAMPIRE, PA!
Dean Marklin was fairly happy in his life as an above-average HVAC repair man in suburban Pittsburgh until he found out that his hometown, Dormont, was infested with vampires. In fact, they’d taken over his childhood favorite theater, the now-long-abandoned movie palace known as The Grand. What’s worse, at least according to Dean, was that he discovered he’s very good at killing vampires. Now he’s trying to keep up with his day job, maintain a new relationship, and rid Dormont of the undead...
Created and written by J.C. Vaughn (Zombie-Proof, Stargate Atlantis), illustrated by Brian & Brendon Fraim (The Flight, The Three Stooges), colored by Mark Wheatley (Mars, Breathtaker), lettered by Marshall Dillon (Animosity, Startup), and produced by Michael Solof (Off The Beatle Track), Vampire, PA is the story of Dean, his new girlfriend, Dee-Dee, their co-worker “Scuba Dave” Donovan, and the stunningly beautiful, deadly vampire cult leader Jocelyn Elder, who is definitely not the former Surgeon General of the same name.
The original three-issue mini-series from Moonstone Books kicked off with a cover by Mark Wheatley. In a lucky break that defies all reason, the acclaimed, multiple-award-winning creator or co-creator of Blood of the Innocent, Radical Dreamer, Frankenstein Mobster, Mars, and Breathtaker actually had a hole in his schedule and joined the VPA team as interior colorist. He also designed VPA’s nigh-iconic logo. His cover for Vampire, PA #1 serves as the main (or standard) cover for the trade paperback collection.
Twin artists Brendon and Brian Fraim, who capture Dean’s brutal vampire-hunting action and Jocelyn’s sultry, over-the-top style in equal fashion, have previously collaborated with writer J.C. Vaughn on the romance-adventure-mystery Antiques: The Comic Strip, which was serialized in unlikely fashion in the pages of Antique Trader, and the post-apocalyptic science fiction-adventure strip The Flight, which was serialized in V For Vendetta co-creator David Lloyd’s digital Anthology, Aces Weekly. The regular artists on American Mythology’s The Three Stooges also illustrated Kids of the Round Table. They provided the new cover featuring vampire queen Jocelyn Elder for the Kickstarter Exclusive edition of Vampire, PA.
Billy Tucci, creator of the hit indy comic Shi: The Way of the Warrior, and writer-artist of the award-winning Sgt. Rock: The Lost Battalion, not only gave writer J.C. Vaughn a major break when he hired him to write the one-shot Shi: Akai, he also volunteered to illustrate the Convention Edition cover of this Vampire, PA collection. A longtime fan of Brian and Brendon Fraim’s work, he put at least one Pittsburgh-related “Easter Egg” in the cover. His one-of-a-kind original art is one of the rewards available for this project. A special thanks to Dawn Guzzo, who put this cover together for us on short notice!
This 96-page collection includes four pages not initially included when the mini-series was first published, and it also contains the original short story “Vampire Hunter Dean,” on which the series was based. It comes with a cover gallery and more.
VPA Bookmark #1 is based on Mark Wheatley’s cover. VPA Bookmark #2 is based on Brendon & Brian Fraim’s Kickstarter Exclusive cover. VPA mini-print #1 is features Billy Tucci’s art.

Risks and challenges
The overwhelming bulk of the story/art pages and the editorial pages are done and are ready to print right now. If anyone selects the rewards that include new art for the book, those are about the only things we can see that would slow this project down, and even then not for any serious amount of time. We have an experienced team of creators and production people who are confident this will finish on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
