JAWNS seamlessly integrates the functionality of a notebook with the utility of a wallet. It’s rethinking how they fit into your life.
JAWNS wallet carries your cards, cash, an integrated (and replaceable) notebook, and can even accommodate your passport. It has a utility pocket for extra stuff too.
And it’s still one of the thinnest, lightest wallets around.
* Due to certain demand, we've added reward levels up to 20 units of JAWNS. If you are interested in ordering more than 20 units, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stretch Goal Reached
Because we hit $9,000, every order will include a free additional notebook insert. Please help us spread the word by sharing our campaign via the “Share This Project” button on this page.
Yupo® synthetic paper, tested by us for 3 years. It feels great to the touch and is the right stock to feel nice and durable while also being thin and light. It’s also tree-free and completely recyclable.
The cover of your JAWNS is essentially waterproof and extremely resistant to tearing (this does not mean you should swim with your JAWNS, at all, but rest easy knowing it can take the daily wear and tear of weather, spilled drinks, drops on the ground)
40 pages with our custom designed diamond grid. It’s perfect for taking notes, sketching, planning, and documenting your experiences.
For your bills, pounds, duckets, and shekels. Holds up to 4 bills well. If you go past 4, expect the wallet to start bulging a bit but take comfort in knowing you are rich.
For your credit cards, insurance cards, driver's license. Holds 2-3 cards in each pocket.
For business cards, receipts, extra cash, a picture of someone you love. Aww.

Why a Notebook?
A lot of us look at our phone as a modern day technological swiss army knife. Why not just put an idea, a sketch, or your daily to-do list in one or more of the thousands of apps out there? Because what you’re writing or drawing is important, you need to remember it, and you want to be as creative as possible. Plus, what’s more convenient than a notebook right inside your wallet? This is what JAWNS is for. The human mind organizes things by association, so that if you put something important into a drawer of stuff, your mind also labels your important thing “stuff”. Your wallet is important, and so are the things you’re going to sketch and write. Then there’s glass. And no matter how great the development team behind an app are, they can’t remove the glass between you and your work. JAWNS uses paper because we still want the feel of scratching against paper and the look of our own unique handwriting. In fact, scientists have shown that what you write with paper you tend to remember better, and when you're physically connected to your work, you are more creative. It’s science. Literally.
After great feedback from users on our original JAWNS, we redesigned it in two key ways. The JAWNS inside notebook is now replaceable. You can buy refills anytime and keep going with your cover until you want a new one. And great news for current or aspiring world travelers, the refillable notebook slot also fits your standard United States Passport.
Building this product has been a very rewarding experience that has come with many challenges. We’ve gone through several years of prototyping to ensure the product is just right from the exterior look and feel to the final clean-lined construction. We’ve actually been assembling each JAWNS by hand from a single piece of paper. It’s oddly enjoyable, and we’re pretty good at origami now. But you can imagine it’s time consuming when you’re building a company. In order to produce at scale, we’ve updated the design a bit and now have the opportunity for a great partnership with a manufacturer. Our Kickstarter campaign is the first chance to purchase this latest design evolution, and hopefully solidifies this partnership. In 2012, our team set out to create something interesting and truly compelling with design and function in mind. Each of us were jotting down ideas into physical booklets and took notice of it. We discussed and agreed that no matter how big an idea or small a thought, anything important is documented in the notebook. Because as great as our phones and computers are, digital information has a tendency to really fade in our minds, and can actually constrict creativity. When we travel or want to stay productive, we’re making lists, sketching and writing about our experiences in our JAWNS. We find that most people aren’t using their phone when they have a creative inspiration that needs to be recorded and remembered.

What happens when a phone dies?
When your phone dies, it becomes a brick. A brick locker trapping all of your precious information inside of it.
When your JAWNS dies, well... it doesn’t. But when you’re done with your JAWNS, it becomes a special memento -- a piece of personal history for you to hold on to and keep safe. It’s a time capsule where you can look back and remember your travels and experiences, thoughts and reflections, and dazzling ideas and sketches. Today it’s your creative companion, in the future it’s your personal time machine and an artifact of your individuality.
Dan Mills is an entrepreneur who lives in New York City. He recently married a girl from St. Louis and used JAWNS for their save the date mailers. Dan is also experienced in the art of karaoke.
Dave Illig is a designer based in St. Louis. JAWNS keeps his life on track with random sketches, ideas and lists that are always accessible. He loves the outdoors and that his JAWNS doesn't rely on batteries to document his experiences.
Daniel Roberts is a writer from St. Louis, MO. He uses his JAWNS for jotting down story ideas, traveling to far away places, and spending more than he should on food.
We'd like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our respective friends and families who have helped support, nurture, and test JAWNS over the last few years. It's been an incredible journey, and we've loved every step of the way. We could not have done it without them, and for that, as well as the opportunity to keep going on this path, we are thankful.
Risks and challenges
As with almost every Kickstarter, there are risks and challenges associated with manufacturing a new product. The good news is we we’re hand making the original JAWNS for years overcoming those risks and challenges. With a successful Kickstarter, JAWNS will be manufactured by seasoned professionals with decades of experience and knowledge in printing and book making. In our view, the risks and challenges actually decrease with a successful Kickstarter. Of course, should anything about the cover art, design of the wallet or inside notebook need to be altered during manufacturing, we will immediately communicate everything. That being said, we’ve been in constant communication with our suppliers and manufacturing partner and they see no issues with our current design or cover art.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
