Welcome to Science!, an 80 page middle-grade original graphic novel written by husband and wife team, Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson, who you've probably seen somewhere on the internet (Collider Heroes, DC All Access, Jawiin). This is their second co-created comic after their debut creator-owned series Jupiter Jet, published in 2017 by Action Lab Comics. This graphic novel will feature art by illustrator Dez Pittman, colour art by Gehenna: Death Valley creator Becka Kinzie, and letters by Ghost Glyph Studio’s Taylor Esposito, edited by Hope Nicholson (Angel Catbird, Moonshot) and will be published by the multi Eisner-nominated publisher Bedside Press (The Secret Loves of Geek Girls, Gothic Tales of Haunted Love).
(If you're curious about Jason and Ashley's previous comic work, check out the IGN review!)
We successfully funded and reached our first stretch goal! Thank you! That means that not only is Science! happening, but it will be bigger and better. Check out the rewards section below to learn more about our next stretch goal!
Science! is the story of Tamsin Kuhn Trakroo, a fourteen-year-old girl who is already the smartest Theoretical and Applied Physicist in any room. Yeah, she’s that super smart! Tamsin has just started studying at The Prometheus Institute which is only the world's most famous and prestigious science school. The Institute is a futuristic wonderland filled with genius teachers (some who might not be of this world), and floating helper robots known as S.T.A.T.s.
But Tamsin is stressed, and if your dead father talked to you through your super-cool science glasses, you’d be stressed out too. That's right, her father, the world-renowned Dr. Thomas Trakroo uploaded his consciousness before his death and now lives as a hologram stored in Tamsin's glasses.
Her father claims that Lucan Laveran, headmaster of The Prometheus Institute, is his murderer, and is on a mission to destroy the Institute! But Lucan just offered Tamsin a really cool position as his assistant. He can’t be a murderer, right? Can she trust her weird holographic Dad?
Tamsin's really cute roommate, Garyn, is the only one that she can trust right now. However, Garyn’s just discovered a dangerous energy source that could win her the Prometheus Institute Award for Superior Science, or it could tear a hole in the very space/time continuum!
Using all her skills, Tamsin will have to gather a group of super science friends to discover the secrets of Garyn's project. Confronting her ultimate goal: Will she destroy the school that her father claims terminated him or save it? (That's only if her rocket obsessed friend, AJ, doesn't burn it down first. )
Will Tamsin let the pretty girl she has a crush on push the boundaries of astrophysics too far? Probably. Will she try to stop the man who her father says killed him? Maybe. In the ultimate school of science it’s not your friends, your teachers, or your family that you can trust. You can only trust in SCIENCE! And it’s time for Tamsin True to grow up.
This comic was created when Inman had an idea for a science-adventure story in the vein of Star Trek: the Original Series, that would read like the school-based stories he and Robinson enjoyed growing up (s/o to Harry Potter!). Pittman was a last-minute addition to the team after she met Inman and Robinson at Wizard World Portland earlier in 2018 and the team clicked so well they knew they had to collaborate on something. This is a further amping up of the science fiction tropes in storytelling that Inman and Robinson began exploring in Jupiter Jet!
But did you know? The first 10 pages of Science! are already COMPLETE! Story, art, colors, letters and experiments are complete and ready to go! This means the story is ⅛ complete and we are looking to fund the production and printing costs associated with creating the final 70 pages so that it can be a real-life book As Soon As Possible! Since this book is 100% creator-owned, there's no publisher financing. We, the creators, are responsible for all costs to make this SCIENCE! story come to life! Even our publisher, Bedside Press, isn't getting paid by this Kickstarter.
Our goal is just enough to bridge the gap to make SCIENCE! a real physical book. With that in mind, if you’ve enjoyed our previous comics work (Jupiter Jet, Captain Terrific stories in the IF Anthologies, Love is Love, The Red Shirt Diaries), please support our next step in the world of creator-owned comic books. SCIENCE! will become a reality with your support, we have some outstanding reward for you AND REMEMBER: you’re only charged if we make our funding goal. As of right now, this Kickstarter is the only way you can purchase the book. So don't miss out on these amazing SCIENCE! adventures.
Now check out some pages…
WHERE THE FUNDS WILL GO -
Money earned will go to covering fees, production, postage, and printing of the collection. The writers aren't even being paid for this book. All Kickstarter funds are to support our artist, colorist, letterer and more! Any leftover money will be used to pay for new artwork that will be used in the series...maybe some back-ups by other creators? A variant cover? All money will go back into the book, period. The first goal of this campaign is to give our readers a high-quality product.
Look, more art!

Dez Pittman Hello there! My name is Desiree' Pittman, Dez for short. Growing up, I just wanted to create art all the time. In 2001, I attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where I studied cartooning and illustration and later graduated in 2005 with a BFA.
I currently reside in Portland, Oregon with my amazing husband, Jason, who is also a very talented artist. On top of doing my own projects, I enjoy commission work and collaborations. You're most likely to see me at a Convention drawing Zombie Portraits and selling prints of my illustration work.
And just in case you wanted to know, I love food. Food is pretty awesome. And ice-cream, MAN do I love ice-cream.
Becka Kinzie is a freelance artist and colorist from Ontario, Canada. Some of her coloring work has been featured in comics such as Hacktivist (vol. 2), and the Gothic Tales of Haunted Love anthology. When not coloring, she's drawing her own horror/darkly inclined comics and art. She's currently working on her horror/sci-fi webcomic, which can be found on her website at thebecka.com.

Risks and challenges
All of the creators involved in this project are professionals with years of experience and excellent records in making tough deadlines. Even better -- the first issue has already been written and drawn! All that remains is to finish the other 70 pages and to prepare it for actual physical printing. Of course, unavoidable personal mishaps, acts of God, global disruption, or alien invasions could throw us off schedule, and we will keep Kickstarter backers updated if we do encounter any delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
