THE ARTIST: Jav Rivera has been writing music since the mid-90s and began his recording career when he was hired to compose music for films. He has been described as a modern blend of a 1970s singer/songwriter. Categorized as alternative, there are echoes of progressive rock, folk, and blues. A mixture of José González and Pink Floyd, Jav combines heartfelt folk with experimental production.
THE DILEMMA: Many artists have struggled to create quality music under the shadow of the Music Industry. Artists who are supported by major labels are given studio time and promotional support. But these same artists are also given extremely limited room to grow as musicians and are expected to have pop radio hits. Though popular, most of these artists cannot expand their sound without the control of their labels, and therefore churn out the same bland music, album after album.
THE ALTERNATIVE: There are also independent artists, like Jav Rivera, whose main goal is to create new, meaningful music. In order to maintain his exploration of music, Jav must continue to produce albums independently. This freedom does, however, come with a price - no funding. All of Jav's previous three albums (released under the pseudonym “Tino Ghost”)
were self-financed. This time around, Jav is seeking the help of his fans (old and new)
to contribute funds to the cost of his fourth album, "Almost Alive".
THE TECHNICAL STUFF: Studio time, audio engineers, and CD replications are usually where most of the cost of an album occur. Because Jav is an independent recording artist, he has been able to do the creative (and more extensive) work in his home recording studio. These final mixes, however, must go through what's called a Mastering process. This is the more technical aspect of music and should be done by a professional engineer. Once these audio files are mastered, they now must get pressed into CD and digital formats to make their way into your homes. Replications and engineers cost mucho moolah and this is where you come in.
THE FINAL STEPS: The album has already been written, recorded, and mixed. The next steps are to:
1) Send final mixes to get professionally mastered
2) Press/Print into CD and digital formats
Your contributions will go towards these final steps and help get "Almost Alive" into the world. We have provided several options, from a pre-sale of the album as a digital download to the ultimate package that includes a CD of the new album + two of Jav's previous albums + your name listed in the liner notes. But it only can happen with your support so we ask you to contribute to "Almost Alive" and please spread the word.
