About this project
What is this exactly?
Make the world new is a photo book documenting and deconstructing what it is to travel across North America in a modern day circus. It would be a photo documentary of me along with a few cameras following the Vans Warped Tour. It would be a book that not only captures the amazing musical performances that have been drawing people to Warped Tour for years as well as the joys of being able to travel the continent with your best friends, but it would also show the heartache of being away from loved ones, the exhaustion from living on the road, and the hard work that is put in by the crew and staff everyday. My goal for this photo book would be to show an audience the many layers and ups and downs that come along with one of the biggest tours of the summer.
Why are you doing this?
Music has always been a passion of mine. I had the honor to go out on the Van's Warped Tour last year for a couple weeks and it was one of the most exciting and encouraging experiences of my life, it was not easy but totally worth it. I had the chance to take some photos while I was on the tour but I spent most of my time tour managing, so I wasn't fully able to capture everything that I wanted to. So this year I am wanting to focus all my time to capture the best images that tell the best stories of the tour. I saw so many amazing highs and terrible lows, I heard so many stories of victory and failure in just two weeks and I want to capture those stories the best way that I know how, through photos.
You are asking for a lot of money, What for?
Well that is a very good question, the reason for such a high goal is because attempting to drive and follow the entire warped tour would be impossible for one person. So I have teamed up with Sam Dean and Plug Your Holes (www.plugyourholes.com) and they have offered me a bunk on their bus. But even with their genorosity its still not cheap. In order to get all the credentials and the bunk it is going to run over 5k. Also I will not strictly be shooting digital, I will be shooting a mix of 35mm and also Polaroid. And the film and development doesn't come cheap. And then lastly book production and printing, in all honesty that is going to be the biggest expense. Book prodcution in a limited run can get really expensive. One thing that I can promise is that every single penny pledged will go into making sure we are able to put together the absolute best book possible.
Why should I give you my hard earned money?
This is one of the questions that I really can't answer for you. But what I can say is that without the concert goer there would be no concerts. Especially when it comes to festivals like warped tour that are really geared to a certain sub genre market. So without you going to warped tour, there would be no warped tour just like without warped tour this book wouldn't be happening. So its all just a circle and in reality this book is about you more than it is about the tour itself because without you there would be no tour. So I can't really tell you why you should contribute to the project exactly but I can tell you that if you have been to warped tour or ever wanted to be in a touring band, this book is about you.
