Jarana Beat is a collective of artists that through the roots of Mexican and Latin American music and dance creates art that is both socially conscious and educational.
Since our inception 5 years ago we've taught and played at Berklee College of Music and have also given educational concerts and performances throughout the country.
At this very moment in Jarana Beat's development, we are ready and at a point to reach a new level and take our work to a much wider audience.
Whatever rewards we're offering are coming from our hearts, from our hands to yours, with the hopes that you can help us fund our trip for our official showcase at SXSW in Austin Texas this year. Aside from performing, we will be offering free workshops in conjunction with local cultural organizations and artists from Austin.
“Mexico-via-Brooklyn combo Jarana Beat weaves intricate rhythms and delicate plucks with rich, yearning vocals to gorgeous and surprisingly jolly effect. The 14-strong outfit includes dancers, who use their stomps and taps as percussion, and you’ll hear Native American, Gypsy and Afro-Mexican motifs in their music. Great stuff.” – Critic’s Pick, Time Out New York
