"...writing on the PaperLike produces a better result than writing on the surface of the screen. From this point of view, the mission is fulfilled." - igen (French)
"I definitely have more control on my stroke, it doesn't feel like I'm fighting to take control of the lines, the difference is like night and day." - Graphic artist
"When using the pencil setting on Apple notes and the PaperLike, I can promise I subconciously felt the smell of a pencil." - Philip Maurer / Web designer
For some years now I've been trying to go paperless. For this I tried the iPad and all kinds of styluses and it never really worked. It was impossible to write and rest the hand on the screen, styluses were not precise and mostly it was a unsatisfying experience.
Until the new iPad pro and Apple Pencil came out. I was blown away by its responsiveness and palm rejection, but regrettably the plasticky feel when writing on the iPad with the Apple Pencil really disappointed me, as I really missed the haptic feedback.
I then decided to fix this, as there wasn't a good solution in the market. After some extensive research and testing we made the PaperLike. It is a screen shield that makes writing on the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil feel like writing on paper. It is incredible how it completes the iPad Pro experience.
No matter if in a meeting or simply collecting thoughts. Handwriting with the Apple Notes App and the PaperLike is the most paper like digital experience ever. You can even rest your hand on the display without leaving finger marks.
Sketching with the Procreate App and the PaperLike is the best digital sketching experience that feels like paper on the iPad. With the PaperLike, your hand slides nicely on the iPad’s surface, making the sketching experience much more rewarding.
No more printing, no more heavy books or documents. You can now write directly on a page, make notes or highlight on the iPad while keeping the paper feel. Combine the haptic feedback of paper with today’s connected digital tools.

No fingerprints

Drastically reduces glare
The PaperLike works with all iPad Pro models. And man it adds the missing detail to the awesome iPad Pro.
The PaperLike has been made to simulate the feel of paper when using the Apple Pencil. The material is hard enough to add the needed tooth and surface texture, but still not too coarse so that the screen noise is minimal.
The PaperLike is a worthy iPad upgrade for paper people like me. All titles, sketches and annotations in this campaign were made by me on the iPad Pro using our latest PaperLike Prototype. It has been a joy building this campaign, and I'm looking forward to revolutionising your iPad experience and having you on board!
I tested the PaperLike next to other iPads without the PaperLike in an Apple Store. In the video you can see the improvement in the glare and reflection. We also got people in the Apple Store to test the difference and they were amazed of the paper feel. Even an Apple Sales representative agreed that the paper feel improved the iPad Pro experience, but asked us to stop filming.

Thanks for reading this far. I hope you got all the Info you needed and decided to back us and get your own PaperLike! Anyhow, I'd love to hear from you in case you have feedback or have any open questions keeping you from joining this campaign. Please open the FAQ and click on "ask a question".
Last but not least thanks to Markus Badberg (AKA Badhills) for lending me his equipment and taking his Sunday for filming the campaign video. He wrote a blogpost (in German) about the making of. Have a look here.
Manufacturing and quality control: We have secured an experienced manufacturer for the PaperLike, and they have consistently manufactured our prototypes with the right surface condition and material. We don't expect any risk there.
Distribution: The complexity of the distribution depends strongly on how successful this campaign becomes. I have experience in managing Kickstarter campaigns, and this hasn't been an issue yet.
Unforeseeables: If you are a regular Kickstarter user, you will know the inherent risks that we face when launching a Kickstarter project. The most common one is dealing with unforeseeable situations and unforeseeable problems. Which I can’t list here due to the mere nature of these and the vast amount of improbable things that might happen and the ones that will end up happening. Herewith we pledge that we will tackle any problem with our best energy and competence. We have a team of experienced problem-solvers who will get this project through any hiccup, and you'll take part in this adventure by receiving regular updates.
