About this project
Welcome Coffee Lovers and Tarot Enthusiasts!
A few years back, we made a Limited Edition Majors-Only Coffee Tarot that sold out quickly.
Soon after, owners of our LE deck—and those who missed out—began asking us to create a full 78-card version…a Grande Edition, if you will.
We finally decided to do it—and we’ve come to Kickstarter to help make it possible!
But we’re going to do much more than “just” create a Coffee Tarot: Grande Edition: we’re also going to produce Kickstarter exclusives, such as a full-color tuck box, 4 special Significator Cards (featuring a Soul GPS system Janet invented) and 3 Stretch Goal Bonus Cards (only available through this campaign)—not to mention large, wooden boxes, hand-embellished via pyrography (Ron is a master wood-burner) featuring symbols/theme of your choice (limited to ONLY 5).
Ron is the hands-on artist. Janet is the Creative Director/Wordsmith/Tarot Author/Expert/Social Media Maven.
Together, we’ve published the 82-card Snowland Deck and its digital companion book. For 19 years, Ron has worked full-time at a bespoke belt factory during the day, and pursues his passion for art of all types (even baking and furniture design) in the evenings and on weekends. Janet—a homeschooling Mom for 12 years—is the author of Back in Time Tarot (Hampton Roads, 2008), Tarot in Reverse (Schiffer Publishing, 2012), Naked Tarot: Sassy, Stripped-Down Advice (Dodona Books, 2018) and 365 Tarot: Daily Insights, Look-a-Likes and Spreads (Dodona Books, 2019). She’s been a guest on various radio programs, including the wildly popular nationally syndicated Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.
Janet’s reviews, articles and AstroTarot Forecasts are widely published in print magazines (Coffee Magazine, Sedona Journal of Emergence, MysticPop, Witches&Pagans, Ancient American Magazine, Everything Elko, et. al)—as well as online publications. In fact, Janet is an Amazon.com Hall of Fame Reviewer (there’s only 142 in the world), specializing in Self Help, Tarot and divination titles. With their teen son, Noah (who just graduated High School), Janet has co-created the Boyer Charming Oracle and the Animal Totem Charms Oracle.
We share all this with you to give you complete confidence that we have a track record for creating empowering, useful oracles, meeting deadlines, working in the publishing field, engaging with our fan base, reaching out to like-minded individuals, practicing online transparency and holding ourselves to (sky) high standards of excellence (we're both first-born Scorpio Suns with Aquarius Moons—maybe that explains it!).
To find out more about us and all the creative things we’ve done—and are doing—please visit BoyerCreations.com. To see all completed Coffee Tarot cards, visit our site at Tarot.Coffee or our Facebook image album here. (we'd be grateful if you "liked" our page while there). Thanks heaps!
Our little family—three peas in a pod—love coffee. Seriously, madly, deeply love it.
Years ago, Janet had an idea for a coffee-themed Tarot: an entire deck whose cards featured some aspect of growing, roasting, brewing, drinking, serving, spilling or enjoying this delicious brown elixir—as well as its fruit and beans. We began brainstorming cards.
Some, like Out of Business—our version of the Death card—were firmly grounded in “real life”.
Others, like Caf~Fiend card—our version of The Devil—were fanciful.
Due to popular demand—and Janet’s persuasion—Ron agreed to draw and color (watercolor pencils) 56 more cards to make a full deck. YAY!
Ron delved into research—reading about coffee growing, cultivation, harvesting, roasting, brewing and more. (Every oracle we create sits atop an extensive foundation of research—and lengthy discussion). As with our first Tarot, the Snowland Deck, Janet provided texts and insights into each card—especially what each actually means in a reading...which makes for a modern, useful and intuitive tool for inspiration, problem-solving and divination.
Ron is almost done illustrating our Coffee Tarot: Grande Edition—he has only a dozen cards left to illustrate—so we’re super excited to complete this deck and get it into the hands of fellow coffee and Tarot enthusiasts worldwide.
Both the deck (jumbo sized at 5 ½ x 3 ½ inches) and the bag (fabric selected by Janet and hand-stitched by our local seamstress), will be Made in the U.S.A. Our Majors-only deck had borders but, for the Grande Edition, we plan on making the cards borderless (only a raw umber stripe with a cream title at the bottom). Diversity is important to us, so you will see varied ethnicities, body types and ages in this deck (Woohoo!)
You'll also no doubt recognize some pop culture references, too--as well as a resurrected coffee zombie (Wake-Up Call, our version of Judgment), a Latte Pro 8.0 android (8 of Earth), alternate history (JAVA astronaut in The Moon and ancient coffee hunters in Tradition), aliens (5 of Air), 8-bit coffee video game (7 of Air), the caffeine molecule (6 of Air), anthropomorphized animals, homages to master paintings (4 of Water and 9 of Air)...and yes, daily scenes of life with coffee.
ONLY the Kickstarter version of our Coffee Tarot: Grande Edition will feature a specially-designed tuck box, the 4 special Significators (Soul GPS) and any Stretch Goal Bonus Cards (one, two or three).
Ron sketches all cards by hand, transfers them to special paper and then uses watercolor pencils to complete the images.
The re-named Major Arcana cards are:
The Fool = The Bean
The Magician = Magic
The High Priestess = Secret Recipe
The Empress = French Press
The Hierophant = Tradition

The suit elements are represented as Water =Chrome, Fire=Copper, Earth=Bronze and Air=Silver.
The full-color companion book (which Janet has just started writing) will include Ron's thoughts as the artist, card descriptions/inspirations, keywords, intuitive journaling questions, original coffee-related spreads, sample readings and puzzles/games—as well as coffee facts, trivia and lore.
Janet has backed dozens of projects on Kickstarter—most of them, Tarot and oracle decks. Not only does she love the excitement of the Kickstarter format to reach more people and raise funds (for printing, hiring a book designer, paying our seamstress, shipping and marketing), but she also wanted to provide exclusive rewards to those who support our campaign here (i.e. goodies that will NOT be available after the Kickstarter campaign).
Fees = Money that Kickstarter, Amazon and Backerkit charges. Taxes...well, you know what they are.
Production = Paying our seamstress and book designer, as well as vendors that will create the merch with our art on it. Also, envelopes, boxes, tape and other packaging needs.
Shipping = USPS costs.
Printing = Cost of getting the decks and companion book printed in America.

Risks and challenges
Honestly, only a natural disaster or serious illness could delay this project. We've worked with the printer before and are confident that we'll produce a gorgeous deck. The only components that need completed as of late July are the companion book and twelve card images--and the ordering of the Add-Ons (we've worked with those companies before, too). Should we reach the Stretch Goal of 3 bonus cards, Ron can create those within a month's time. We're projecting December 2017 as the delivery date for everything (so everyone will get their goodies in time for the winter holidays), but it's more likely that we'll begin shipping in November.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
