Hello! Jane and Steph here.
We're looking for funding to help us with TWO of our comedy projects which are taking place over the next 6-12 months.
Firstly, we've been producing the Cumbrian comedy podcast Miraculous Cumbria since July 2018. Already we've had thousands of people listening from Cumbria and even across the World. The podcast has always been free and will remain so.
The podcast promotes the weird and wonderful parts of Cumbria. Plus, we often use it as a platform to freely discuss mental health. We've already achieved so much with our podcast which even led us to hosting 'The Friday Showcase' on BBC Radio Cumbria.
We've been self funding every bit of the podcast and using all our spare time to make it by visiting various corners of Cumbria. An average weekend of podcasting for an episode can cost approx £50 including entrance fees, parking, travel costs and food. We've put out approx 25 episodes so far. We have loved making the podcast and want to make it better.
Looking ahead into 2019, we want to expand the podcast so we can cover more ground and promote Cumbria further afield. We want to raise money so we can cover;
- Entry fees (Approx £10 each per venue)
- Travel £20-£25 Accommodation - varies Podcasting hosting fees £10 a month
- Advertising on Facebook / Instagram £50
- Website Domain £10
- Podcasting equipment upkeep £50
Merchandise - £50-£100 we would like to continue to make our merchandise free to our loyal listeners who support the podcast by sending in stories, suggestions and experiences.
Our main challenges of working together is time and the fact we live an hour apart. With funding we can afford accommodation and not be relying on train services (which have lately had huge delays and cancellations) or parking restrictions.

The second project we will use funds for Brighton Fringe in May 2019 where we'll write and perform a comedy show together.
Jane has already had four successful comedy shows at Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe including, 'Made in Cumbria' which received rave reviews and was nominated for two comedy awards. She was also a Funny Women Finalist and Brighton Comedy Festival Finalist. This year she used her Brighton Fringe show, 'Last Night at the Circus' to bring awareness of mental health and suicide awareness. She was recently heard on BBC Radio 4 and 4 Extra.
Jane's previous work can be seen at www.jane-postlethwaite.com
Steph is a comedy writer and actor. She has performed in various theatrical and musical productions. This will be her first time writing and performing in a Brighton Fringe show.
Our new comedy show is called 'Haunted'. The new show will be a mixture of sketch and characters based on some of the experiences we've had during our podcast visits. To make this happen we'll be needing support for things such as;
- Registration fees £130
- Venue fees £300
- Poster Design £100
- Flyers Design £50
- Printing of flyers and posters £50
- Travel £300 Marketing £100
- Advertising on Facebook and Instagram £100
- Director support £20 per hour Costumes £100
- Props £100
- Rehearsal rooms £10 per hour
- Accommodation in for the Fringe £150 And whatever else crops up (Something always does!)
Instead of doing TWO separate crowdfunding projects we've decided to do ONE and combine the fees so we can fund at least the next 6-12 months of creative activity.
If you have enjoyed our podcast, or one of our previous shows and/or just like us as people we'd really appreciate your donations. Think of it as donating what you would spend buying us a drink or tea. Also, sharing and spreading the word of this Kickstarter on social media or word of mouth would be a huge help.
Help us make some laughter and promote Cumbria!
Thank you, Jane & Steph x
Risks and challenges
Our main risk is not getting enough funding for our projects. We're commited to writing, performing and making this the best show possible to minimise any other risks.
Our challenges will be making sure the show is to a high standard and having the time to meet up to do the podcasts and writing for the show. Funding will give us flexibility to spend more time to work together.
We both have lots of experience of marketing my shows and dealing with PR so can continue to promote our podcast and the Brighton Fringe.
