$3600 REEEAACCHH!! - The super prolific and thoughtful writer Greg Pak (Marvel/DC: Action Comics, Batman/Superman, the upcoming Totally Awesome Hulk) will write a short origin story for The Keeping Locket, a theme song I wrote for his upcoming series Kingsway West (Dark Horse Comics)! Our interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Backstory: A few months ago, I wrote a theme song in the voice of the locket that the main character (Kingsway Law) wears. I pitched it to him knowing that the Locket doesn't have a backstory yet. So this would be a short story on the Locket's origin, in prose! I really really hope we get it! Listen to the song here:
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity to this project.
Let's get'm and put us to work!
The goal is to create a one-take video with moving miniature sets for the re-produced original song, Southern Winds (from Goodnight Company). The sets are made with cardboard/paper: city block, meadow, moving forest machine, hot air balloon, city with skyscrapers, mountain range, etc. Production value is really important to me on this - so I'm doing my best to dress the pieces right with building textures, fountain, water (moving yarn), trees, city signs, gondola, sunset wheel, etc.
This video was inspired by the incredible cardboard work of Kiel Johnson & a beautiful segment from the latest Cirque Du Soleil show - Kurios. Months of building and a lot of planning, this has been a labor of love that I am SO EXCITED for you to see!! I've been working on it all year and actually paused this summer due to moving/acting/laziness... when one day, my nutty partner-in-crime Kari Lee Cartwright came over to bake and spun us into a creative brainstorm! We've giggled through 4 shows together in the past year and I'm so lucky to have her super talents onboard as Director and Producer!
Here's our budget breakdown:
Crew (9) $ 1650
Food $ 100-ish
Materials $ 50-ish
Total $ 1800

Risks and challenges
I think the hardest part will be the choreography of set movers and DP. this includes lighting/lens focus changes and making sure the sets are well finished to hold up against multiple takes. On the set building end - I'm at about 75%, still have a lot of building to do this week. I'm definitely nervous about finishing everything to my OCD liking, but there's plenty time to sleep after the shoot eh?Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
