My fellow Americans and Citizens of the World,
I am so excited to launch this album campaign...a campaign that we can win with your support! We talk about my Presidential run one day, and while I feel like I should probably hold something like a city council office first before we head to The White House, THIS Kickstarter campaign is one I am MORE than ready to run.
I'm really excited to make my 4th solo record, and I'm so glad that my friend and producer Daniel Barrett is back on board as my musical running mate. We've made a trilogy of EPs together, and while I was off making a pop EP with onetwothreescream in 2018, Dan was carefully re-building his studio in a brand new space in South Austin. It's a beautiful spot full of good vibes, and Dan has elected my project to be the first one recorded at the new Broken Horn Studio.
I have songs! So many songs that I am not quite sure which ones will be on this album. I'm currently in the culling process with a few of my trusted campaign advisors, and sending voice memos to Dan and going through notebooks full of songs. They're about the gamut of things that make up life...some politics, yes. Some love, of course. Some depression and redemption? Yep, been there too.
Dan and I have talked about angles to approach how we make this, and to be frank, I am not quite sure how many songs we will record yet. A lot of it will be determined by the budget we have to work with. This might be a long EP and...IT MIGHT BE A FULL LENGTH!
We have dream goals of who might be guest players and singers on the record, and we'll record as many songs as the money will allow. What I DO know 1000% is that what Dan and I work on together will come out sounding great, with a lot of thought and heart behind it. It's a winning ticket, if I do say so myself.
Some general numbers:
Each song takes anywhere from $1000-$1500 from recording to mixing to mastering to make.
Adding musicians can be anywhere from $100 a song to $500 a day per musician.
Artwork is generally $1000.
Duplication of discs runs $1200 or so.
Kickstarter takes 8% off the top, too!
This is the part that will pay to get an album into your ears! The budgeted goal will make that happen so that everyone gets paid to do their work, which is a really fun bonus part of making an album...paying really great artists to do great work.
(I've tried to build in reward costs, like t-shirts and pins. Those cost...well...money to make! I'm working with a shirt designer right now, and the pins have been made and are ready to ride around on your shirts / bags / anywhere you pin things!)
But wait! There's more! If we go over the $15,000 goal, that money will be put toward promotion. A good promotion budget plus postage to mail these things all over the country/world is $7000. This would get the album in the hands of a lot of reviewers, publications, radio stations, etc. Maybe I'll even get on "Meet the Press" and double up on my campaign efforts. I'll do as much as I humanly possibly can myself, but it would be amazing to hire real professional promotional help this time.
This is a lot of info, I know. Thank you for perusing it and if you have any questions or ideas or thoughts about any of this...I want to hear them! If there's a package you want that you don't see, ask me...we'll do it.
And in the meantime, thank you so much for taking a look!

It's an all or nothing campaign! If we don't make goal, there will be no money to make a record. There will be no back room pork barrel spending deals...a real clear all or nothing on this goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
