On October 27th, 2012, "Backstage" the Musical had it's world premiere performance at the Hard Rock Cafe in Phoenix, AZ. It was incredibly successful when it came to pleasing the crowd and having a talented cast, but there were some downsides:
-Due to the unusual choice of venue, the show was only able to book one performance. Many people who wanted to see the show never got a chance, and most of the cast was itching to do it again.
-The production was high in spirit but woefully low in budget, and several of the props and set pieces that we wished to include had to fall by the wayside, or in some cases be written out of the script.
-Due to lack of funds, we were sadly unable to make an original cast recording of the songs or get a professional video recording of the show.
But as luck, fate, and determination would have it, "Backstage" is coming back by popular demand! Already, there are 5 performances booked, and even more venues expressing interest in bringing in the show. We are getting a second chance to do all the things we dreamed in our big dreams for this production. A cast recording. A professional video recording. Kick-ass sets and props to make this show as truly awesome as it can be.
Hence the fundraising plans, Kickstarter project, and big shiny puppy dog eyes.
Skilderverse Productions is not about making money. It's about making memories. It's about doing theatre for the love of theatre. It's about including people, teaching people new skills, and giving people a chance to shine. But unfortunately, to be able to make that happen, we do need money. So please help us out- we appreciate every donation, big or small.
This musical is the ultimate backstage pass! Take a look behind the curtain during the production of a high school show. From the first rehearsal 'til when the show ends, the technical crews, design crews, and stage-hands (aka Techies) work tirelessly- and anonymously- to make everything perfect for the audience. And sometimes what happens behind the scenes- the stuff you never see- is better than the show itself. See for yourself as you watch the goofiness, the works-in-progress, the blow-ups and the melt-downs. In this two-act musical comedy rich with intertwined personal situations, you'll find that not all the drama takes place on the stage.
Risks and challenges
Even if our project is successfully funded, there is still the matter of finding the props/sets/video and music recording equipment/etc that we need within the budget. For example, some of the props we need include a giant fountain and a sewing machine. One of the special effects we need is a projected wall of flames. And none of these things (including/especially quality video and music recording services) come cheap. But we are a resourceful bunch. We will build a fountain out of foam if we have to. Film the projected flames ourselves. Spend hours tirelessly mixing and editing the songs for the cast recording on our own computers. All we need is whatever help we can get to put our determined, resourceful selves to work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
