About this project
Motor City Explorers
An Urbex Love Story.
The focus of this project is to create a short video documentary of the underground culture of urbex photography (urban exploration) in Detroit Michigan. With a focus on those who document their explorations through photography. Depending on how well funded this project is I may try and get a small book published in conjunction with the featured photographers on the documentary. I am planning on shooting this in June, and publishing in late July or early August.
Recently Detroit has gained some notoriety for its plethora of abandoned structures. Whether they are old school buildings, defunct automotive plants, or gothic cathedrals in ruin, they are all being explored and photographed regularly. This mini documentary will follow a select group of photographer/explorers on their journeys through the beautiful and dangerous cityscape of Detroit s forgotten infrastructure.
We’ll follow a group of photographers as they embark on an expedition that could either produce stunning and surreal imagery, or one that could get them injured, arrested or even dead. The dangers involved in this type of photography are numerous. People have died falling through floors, or have been mugged and robbed of their equipment, and there is of course the potential legal ramifications involved with walking onto a piece of property that may very well be off limits to the general public.
So if you have a passion for photography, an appreciation for the beauty that can be found in the most obscure of places, or are excited at the prospect of being faced with potentially life threatening exploration then this is a project you should consider funding.
