One Revolution: A Year of Flash Fiction will be a short book of 12 (or more) flash fiction stories.
If my project is funded, I will post one story each month on my website, www.jamielackey.com, and then at the end of the year I will collect the stories into a book.
I was hesitant to try to self-publish my own work, but I feel like I have enough publication credits to show that I know what I'm doing, and I've done enough editing that I feel comfortable putting a book together.
Writing is all I've ever wanted to do. It's what I went to college for. It's what I want to go back to school for. It's my dream, and I've been working toward it for years. With your help, I can get a few steps closer to touching it.
Q: What is flash fiction?
A: A story told in under 1000 words
Q: That's really short. Why do you write them?
A: I have a short attention span.
Q: What kind of stories do you write?
A: I mostly focus on science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Q: Where did your nifty space cover come from?
A: NASA. http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/multimedia/display.cfm?IM_ID=1793
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: It's an experiment. I want to go to grad school next year, but even if I do get a fellowship, it's still a huge hit to my annual income. If I can come up with side projects that actually bring in some money, I'll feel a lot better about quitting my jobs and going back to school.
**Edit** I didn't get the fellowship I was trying for, so now I'm desperately hoping that this succeeds beyond my wildest dreams. It's the only way I'll be able to afford to go back to school at all. Tuition is somewhere around $30,000 a year, which is more than my annual income. I'll never be able to afford it, and I can't justify another round of student loans.
Q: So, if I give you $100 or $200 dollars, you'll write anything I want?
A: Within reason. I won't write fanfiction or erotica for this project, but I'm pretty open to anything else.
Q: How do I know that you're a competent writer?
A: I have a fair number of stories available on my website. http://www.jamielackey.com/index.php?topic=stories
Here are links to a couple of specific examples.
Or you can read my Martian Adventures series. (It starts with the last entry and goes backwards.) http://www.jamielackey.com/index.php?topic=Mars&page=3
You can also check out the stories that I have had published here. http://www.jamielackey.com/staticpages/index.php?page=jamie_lackey_credits_published_works
Q: Why $1200?
A: $600 for content (12 stories at $50 each) and $600 for production (ISBN, printing costs, etc.)
